Temporary Car Insurance / cancellation charges

Hi guys
Sorry if it's been a commonly asked question ... but do you know of any firms that will provide insurance for say 2 - 3 months? Or at least allow to pay monthly and not slap you with a rediculous cancellation charge?

My situation is come the start of May I'll have turned 30 and the 3 points on my licence will also be cleared - hence massively cheaper quotes in a nut shell. I'm already playing like £1500 a year!!! [:'(][:(]
I've had to cancel my current policy (due for renewal Monday) as their cancellation charge would be £200+!!!

I've already Google'd about but most of them I've tried so far won't do it on insurance group 17+ cars :(

So do you kind chaps know of anywhere that will insure on 944's for a few months or at least don't give a massive cancellation charge? I could probably live with a one off £25er as the new quote at NFU (who cant insure me until I'm 30) will shave off hundreds of £££s!

I went through Footman James to find the best policy for me, however I am over 30 and my S2 is on a limited mileage classic policy (and I use a second car, Cougar V6, as my daily runaround). Maybe worth googling them and giving them a call. Good luck!

Yea loads, my phone bills going to be through the roof!
Spent all day Saturday and now this morning on it.

Typcial scenario - spend half an hour giving all the details, then come back and say 'Oh sorry we cant insure until your 30 on this car / we cant do group 17+ for you / etc' or the price is just rediculous. Cheapest so far is £1300 a year!

I've got some leads I'm chasing up from some garage owning friends of mine....

Really though I'd bend over and take it for a few months just to cancel and head across to NFU in May who'll happily insure me for at least around half the above cheapest quoted price!
I was hoping someone would know of a place that'll insure for a few months, or have a reasonable cancellation charge from experience.

Well just got my cheapest quote from special deal at Aviva - £850 a year. It's a lot cheaper than the £1300 cheapest quote curteosy of gocompare/confused/etc and all that lot!

So many places saying we wont insure on that car. Bizarre.

I've not heard of any company that won't either hit you very hard for short-term cover, or have a high cancellation in the first few months at least. Might just have to bear it for the year, but keep cover in place or your no claims will suffer.

Indeed, its completely what I've been finding. I keep mentioning NFU (National Farmers Union) who have given fantastic service and prices over the years (and no I'm not a farmer!) when I cancelled before with them mid term there was ZERO cancellation fee!

HOWEVER

Footman James, who refused to give a quote to me last year, has just given me a STONKER of a quote! I nearly fell out my chair. I have two other places calling me back (Classicline are one, and local to me too) but I think I may have found a winner there! So thank you Spyro! Strange how this year they're quoting me this amazing price and last year nadda!!!

Generally, insurance companies will refund the remaining months on your policy minus one month, so if you are paying £1500 a year you are going to be more than £100 out of pocket if you cancel.

Yup :)

And sorted - ClassicLine pipped Footman James to the post by being £10 cheaper, but having a higher mileage allowance and home start cover too.

Awesome!! So the two suggestions Footman James and ClassicLine were winners!

THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!

I was very nearly having to end up going back to KwikFit (worst company I've ever dealt with in this field) paying £1300+ a year!
Take the "1" digit off that quote and you're close to what I'm getting at Classic Line! [X(][:D][:D][:D] Top stuff!

Btw... the reason Footman James wouldn't insure me last year and presumably the same with Classic Line is because I wasn't 30, it appears! I'm less than one month away from the big three zero so they cut me some slack here apparently.....!
