Terraclean

I bought my '86 944 NA a few years back from someone who actually carries out the de-carbonising/cleaning system and had done it on the 944. It certainly seemed sharper on pick up than some of the others I test drove at the same time - but the biggest thing I have noticed since is that the engine oil NEVER seems to get dirty - I change it once year (limited 3000 miles classic car ins), but it looks like new oil coming out of the bottom of the engine! Oh and it never burns a drop - but I can't necessarily put that down to the cleaning system....
....but then of course I didn't have to pay to have it done....:)

I had this done on my 928 and it does seem sharper and smoother - but that could be the placebo effect!
I don't think it was particularly bad to start with but, for the relatively low cost of the treatment, thought I might as well get it done. The chap who did it commented how smooth the engine was running[:)]
Btw, we have 2 911s and we're not snooty.....[:D]

I'm being unfair, I guess the scary rear-engined handling means you daren't take your hands off the wheel to wave back [:D]

For under a ton it seems worth a try. I did notice the oil was pretty dirty at the last change.

We've discussed it here before, after Edd (Copperman) had it done on his S2.

The concensus was that it was a very simple old (and cheap) mechanic's trick being packaged up and re-sold with a lot of expensive marketing guff. And while I hate to disagree with Russell, the science is as far from being plausible as it's possible to get and one of the main hints that this is all smoke-and-mirrors.

I've read elsewhere that spraying a fine mist of water into your air intake can have much the same effect which is steam-cleaning of the combustion chambers. A litre or so sprayed from a hand-held plant sprayer over a period of 2 or 3 minutes would do the job nicely.

Oli.

No wonder it never gets dirty - it’s unsurprising with that low mileage [8|]

I'll make sure I'm in the 928 the next time we pass on the road then.......[:)]
