Terrible condensation!!

I've had a couple of 944s in the past and not noticed this problem but as the weather has got colder my 944 is getting terrible condensation, especially on the rear screen, I am having to use a chamois almost every day to wipe the inside of it to prevent it freezing on a night, the windscreen also gets wet on the inside, is this just due to the large amount of glass surface area that 944's have, I keep her outside as my 911 has to go in the garage so there is no option to put her under cover.
Any ideas on how to solve this.

Nick - My 944 has aweful condesation as well, but that's only because I haven't sorted the waterleak in it yet. Check your passanger footwell carpet to see if its damp. If it is - source of condesation.

I fixed my condensation problem in the boot by replacing tailgate seal also used to get damp down the rhr storage area in the boot which didnt help.

Nick you must have some sort of dampness in the car, a leak maybe. Mine lives outside and despite the huge expanse of glass suffers no more condensation than other cars do, certainly not warranting a chamois inside.

Im having the same problem with the back screen even thow it is kept in the garage. I did notice the other day i had a small leak from the tail gate when i used a jet wash. Time to replace the seal i think.

What Paul said.

I had a leak from the sunroof last year (before the seal was changed) and the rear footwell would get damp. This lead to condensation literally dripping off the rear window. Great in winter. [&:]

Take care where you get the new seal from, some are not very good, I have just fitted another new one from ForestFine, much better then the previous suppiled by a Porsche Shop !
The new one should be one part not a cut length.

Take care when you fit to remove only one gas strut at a time and have a length of wood or a friend to hold the screen up, its very heavy !

I can relate to this - I used to have a 924 and the problem there was that the drain channels around the sunroof were blocked which helped penetrate the sunroof seal. Even though there was nothing obvious in the car the water had run behind the rear door cards (the insulation was soaking) and the condensation was coming from there.

Don't forget that on the vast majority of our cars the seal between the rear hatch glass and frame is shot. Mine is fine in the rain but when I wash my car I get drips inside the hatch, and I would imagine on some other cars where the seals are in a worse state you might get moisture leaking through from rain and mist. You can get sealant injected inbetween the frame and glass to re-seal which is a service some have talked about on this forum. If you use the search you will find some threads. I think Autoglass offers such a service.

I have the same condensation problem.

When it was chucking it down the other week, I could see water dripping into the cabin near the rear of the sunroof. Time for a new seal.

But.....I have heard it said that although it may look like the sunroof seal, it may still be the hatch seal, anybody got any thoughts on this?

Sunroof drain holes ,poke a piece of wire of suitable size down them.If that doesn't stop it ,vaseline wiped round the seals ,open and close the roof a few times wipe away the excess, job done ,cheaper than new seals.Tighten up the hatch closer thingies three quarters of a turn, this also stops rattles, again works and cheaper than seals.

I had a condensation problem till i unblocked the drain holes in the engine bay. They were full of leaves.

Jobs a good un now and i only need a rear boot seal to make it perfect.

Here lies folly!!!

If your hatch closes properly, leave well alone....otherwise you may spend the next few weekends playing with it to get it back closing properly again [][][]

All of a sudden the condensation has stopped!! I think it was bought on by the colder weather, however now that I have given it a good check over the floor behind the passenger seat is soaking!!!

Would this tend to suggest its the sunroof seal?

All around is bone dry and I rubbed my hands round the inside of the sunroof and it appears dry although it wasn't raining at the time, think I might try that trick with the vaseline and unblock the drain holes....
