Terrible Engine noise

On my latest run out I have encoutered some terrible engine noise between 4000 and 5000rpm, the car also vibrates heavily. Above 5000rpm it quietens and no longer vibrates. I have reved the car while parked up and the same problem happens particularly at 4250rpm. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them or any ideas why it is occuring. I don't normally take the car above 4000rpm and was horrified to hear this noise which I can only descibe as a very loud drone.

Cheers Sean

Sometimes harsh engine noise can be attributed to incorrect valve adjustment and or slack worn timing chains.

Thanks. I'll get these checked out first as I know that the gearbox mounts were starting to wear. Hopefully this will cure the problem without the need to get the valve clearances etc checked out.

Hi
When you sort your problem out I suggest you expore the upper regions of the rev band. The car was designed for this and you will have a lot more fun!
