Tesco Warranty

Hi All,

My warranty with Tesco on the Boxster runs out in April and I have just received a letter from them saying that the warranty will not be renewed as they no longer offer this service.
Any existing warranty will be honoured until it runs out.

So where do I go to renew? Any ideas.

Thanks

Warranty Wise appear to be a good bet. See threads on BoXa.net I'm with the Tesco warranty too, so will face the same issue later this year.

I too have just received a letter from Tesco and had a quick look yesterday for alternative quotes. I also have a 550 Spyder, (what a coincidence), and was quoted over £2000 from Warranty Direct.

I'll check out Warranty Wise to see what they can offer.

You really need to call them - the online quotes are useless. A BoXa.net member has recently got two years cover for arond £2k.

I'm thinking £2000 invested in a bank account would be better than handing over the money to a warranty company.

Your probably looking at an excess per claim in any case.

By useing Warranty Wise, changing a few options and offering a £150 excess I got the quote to £562.33

Warranty Direct wanted £1600, not disimilar to Porsche.

Thanks

In your case Nick , with an M97 engine , its probably a no brainer regarding warranty cover, the big expenditure of an engine is unlikely , since your car has the revised bigger bearing and shaft hub carrier. For those with the older M96 engine , the IMS failure and potential 10K bill is a real concern , even on the 987 models. That's the main reason I went for a warranty, its paid for itself with the recent PASM suspesnion work, front hub bearing and steering track rod end that have needed replacement. My car is dry use only and at 46k miles , its had less use than a lot of other cars of a younger age. If you are not fortunate enough to have the tools or knowledge to repair these cars yourself the repairs even at an independent can soon mount up. I wouldn't say there is definite answer to the value of a warranty it depends as much on luck as it does sound judgement.

The only thing I would check in detail on any policy is the maximum limit per claim. If you want to cover the cost of an engine this needs to be 5k minimum , ideally up to the value of the car (a new engine at porsche is 11k)

I saw a TV ad last night for a company called "Car Protect" offering cheap warranties. Having checked them out, they're based in Sheffiled underwrite the mechanical breakdown and GAP insurance for the AA.

Gave them a call and they're quoting me £312 for 12 months 5 star cover or £519 for 24 months.

Check out their website at www.carprotect.co.uk or call them on 0800 8600 999 for a quote. They cover vehicles up to 10 years old with a max engine size of 3.2L
