Going to take a new MK7 Golf GTi for a test drive tomorrow with the mrs in tow, if we like it and can afford it [;)] I'm gonna be selling my mint, low mileage S2, it will have to be very very good though to persuade me.

Enjoy and good luck! My only thoughts are it will probably depreciate more than the value of your lovely S2. As you say, it will need to be good!

Great car, but you would need to keep the S2. [;)]

A one-year-old Golf instead of a new one will pay for the cost of running the 944 for the next 10 years.....[8|]
 
As has been said, a Mk7 Golf and a 944 S2 are two very different cars. If the entirety of your garage is listed in your signature then you already have a modern hatchback but nothing else like the 944, so selling the S2 to buy a Golf would seem like an odd thing to do.

Well took the Golf for a drive , nice interior, lots of gadgets, very quick, awesome brakes, it would run rings around an S2 and probably a lot of Turbos but it lacked something, it was just another car on the road, must have seen three others on the 10 minute test drive.

I think I just need to remember how good my own car is, lack of use makes me forget.

Sounds odd to me too, but each to their own.

It makes me think though...

I'm guessing a new GTI must cost at least £25k, so what would car/cars would i buy for that money? I'm thinking either a nice 928 to compliment my S2, or just a 997 Carrera S...[:)]

Reminds me of going to test drive an Alfa 146 as a possible 944 replacement. On the way to the garage, a taxi driver next to me in traffic just wound his window down and shouted "Lovely car, mate". And I realised he was right, and wondered what I was doing. Plus, the 146 handled like a bath tub in comparison to the 944. I've still got the 944!
