Textar Pads

I was about to get myself a set of Textar pads from EuroCar Parts when I got into a conversation with a leading independent service manager who advised me to go for the Porsche pads at twice the cost. He says that while the pads are identical to look at they are not the same compound. The Textar pad is harder which can lead to brake squeal and they do not perform as well if cold. Can anyone confirm or dispute this advice before I spend my cash on the Porsche pads.
Many thanks.

I use Textars from Euro Car Parts, and they are perfectly fine. My independent says that they are exactly the same as Porsche pads, just a different box.

I don't know about the UK but in the US pads usually have friction ratings on the back. They are 2 letters, such as EF, FF, GG, and so on. See if there are friction ratings on the pads you want to buy.

On the Boxster Textar is used on the rear with a FF rating. The front is Galfer and it also has a FF rating.

Another vote for Textar from ECP - half the cost of Genuine Porsche but the same part (OEM).

I use them on track days + daily driving and they neither squeal nor need 'warming up'.

Make sure you also buy 4 x anti-squeal shims (fronts) and/or both the 4 x 28mm and 4 x 30mm anti-squeal shims for the rears (these are Genuine Porsche parts from ECP too...)

I hope this helps ...
