"that '˜standard'™ 911 chainsaw shriek"

In my quest for increased enlightenment on the 964 I have just received a copy of another magazine from my favourite Porsche period, (the "˜90's). I thought I would share selected text from the article on the 964/3.6T, which has left me wondering about the "˜standard' 964.

I should make it clear first I do not purport to be C4/ C2 technical expert, just a lover of all things 964 for all their good and bad points. Yes, I own a 3.6 turbo but I have to confess the article left me with a pronounced feeling of respect for the way the writer describes some of the none-blown 964 attributes..

"..The engine delivers so much top-end power; the turbo lacks the balance and evenness of the Carrera.." [&:]

"..What the 3.6T lacks due to both the lower compression ratio and the sound-soaking turbo is that "˜standard' 911 chainsaw shriek; the turbo never sounds as interesting and fascinating and as normally aspirated 911.." [:'(]

Don't get me wrong "" I love the 3.6TURBO"¦. it's hard to look sensible when you're permanently fixed with a "˜grin' due to the delivery of brutal acceleration right up to peak power at 5500rpm [:D][:D]

Respect to the C2 and C4 however.."¦[8|] I must devise a plan this summer to re-acquaint myself with the finesse of the standard car and that "chainsaw shriek" I now wish to hear again and again.

Andrew,

If the pangs of desire are so hard to bear, make a B-line for Center Gravity this coming Sunday morning (19th)!! You're likely to hear plenty of "chainsaw shreik"!! Close on 40 964s are threatening to turn up.

Failing that the Blenheim Palace gathering should be good. 64 cars registered so far for the 2 days. We DO need some more Turbos though!! Melv will probably muster some RS'es too.

Regards

Dave

Even better than that Andrew is to get yourself to a trackday and come for a passenger ride. It's THE only way to experience the full fat noise of a n/a 964 [:)]

Now that is the sort of plan I was thinking of. Now all I need is..........where did I put the PCGB diary of events for T.D's this summer.......

Who will take petty on me and allow 82 kgs of passenger ballast for a lap or two ? Can return the favour in a Mint Green 'T'.

Go to any PCGB trackday, buy a passenger wrist band for a fiver and you'll find plenty of trackdayers that will be more than happy to take you out. Most events will have 964 C2 and RS guys in attendance. Probably the furthest southern event I'll be at myself will be the Donington day in July - a great track for 964s [:)]

Oh yeah, with no soundproofing! :)

I'll be doing a number at Silverstone, bit further south then Donny (and don't forgetRockingham Steve), passengers always welcome, and of course no soundproofing, weighs too much [:D]

Are you coming to the Rock then Steve? I've booked it for a Saturday so that it won't interfere with any GP watching. [;)]

For any one else interested I'm running a group booking for Rockingham with Bookatrack on Saturday August 15th. I've got a £40 discount off the normal price but you need to sign up by sending a cheque by the end of this month. Contact me if interested. [:)]

Still pondering about Rockingham. Would be interesting (unless wet [&o] ) but in the middle of the holiday season, and not decided where/what I'm doing yet.......

Anyway, see you tomorrow :)

Stock against stock, they are right.

But a modified turbo sounds awesome, and the power...
