Took the car into my local german car specialist for a pre lemans shakedown and tighten up this morning. By 10:30 I'd spent £1000 on two new front calipers, EBC Greenstuffs all round and a gearbox oil change....I paid £5K for the car and have spent another 2K in 6 months of ownership....do i care....NOT ALOT...as she'll keep going for miles yet!!!!!!![:D]

Yes, just had an oil change at 30,000 miles and it was £189, but the oil was £85 and the filter was £9.95.

I've just worked out that I've spent a huge amount on my car in a year and 3 months although to be fair most of it is the insurance. almost enough to by a 996 now that's a ridiculous amount really.

Sounds like you're having an easy ride of it!! ;)

actually I'd agree, it's always worth remembering there's no depreciation on these cars either. I've lost more in depreciation on our Honda than the 2K I've spent on the porsche this year. One of them makes sense, the other I struggle with[]

4K buying car 5.5K insurance (for 2 years altogether) 6K on what I'm doing over next month or so which I will update everyone on when all is complete and the rest is things that needed doing which wasn't a lot but I feel it's sort of worth the money as I want to keep it and I'm still young and foolish so inevitably I will learn my lesson.

I know your pain, mine swallowed another £500 today after a month of big bills.

Matt, when are we finally going to be able to see this labour of love of yours?!

Mine goes to the paintshop at the beginning of July and I'm not spending a penny more on it after that.....[8|]

Yeh, right....[:D]

[:(] 5.5K on insurance ON ONE CAR!!!!..poor you. I have 3 cars (2 group 20's) and the total bill for the year is erm..£920...I like being old (34[:D])

I remember paying 1300 for my CRX when I was 21, I thought that was alot!
Can also vouch for being old (36!) - 4 cars 44 S and T, cat21 and scooby all for about 1200!
It gets easier as you get older, or so they say!

So a hundred quid, more or less, for 10 minutes work? Nice work if you can get it, changing the oil involves the removal and replacement of one plug and spinning off the old filter.

If anyone else is prepared to pay even half that amount to change the oil please let me know.

Ian,

Just what I was thinking ... one very easy way to keep costs down on these cars is to do spanner work yourself. Oil is £10 per change, and the oil filter around £7. 10 minutes is a bit optomistic, but if you don't count the time getting the tools out and getting the car into the air, you could easily be done in 15 ....

And what sort of oil costs £85 per change?

Oli.

Its longer than 15 mins for an oil change as I like to give the old hot oil plenty of time to drain out and take my time filling the oil so as not to overfill. About an hour for an oil and filter change including jacking the car up carefully and putting it on axle stands then running the engine, checking for leaks and lowering car on the ground again. If someone supplied the oil and filter, I'd do an oil change on a 944 for £25![;)]

OK, my missus puts the tools away...[:)]

When I last did mine I used a synthetic oil which was about £60 with the filter, but easy to change yourself, alright.

Very soon hopefully! A couple more bits are now being done but she's pretty much on the road.

I replied to your e-mail about the TIPEC meet but maybe it went to the wrong place (I may have replied to the PCGB PM system if you see what I mean). Did you attend in the end?

As it happened, I ended up picking my car up from the garage on Monday night.

Yeah I'd like to see an end to the spending, although when I was looking at my bodywork last night I realised I'm not happy with my rear panel (there's a lot of innuendo in there) - but that's a job that's going to have to wait!!
