That Time Again

Well folks... it's that time again... off to Bonneville on Thursday!
Follow all my antics on Twitter @pofg or on www.efgmotorracing.com.

And wish us luck. Failure is always an option but I'm rather hoping I'll break more records than parts this year... reverse the traditional ratio.
We're on track for the first time sometime Saturday if Long Beach Customs ever release the car....

Fingers crossed for us. 300mph and no excuses.

Rick

Wind and residual water meant we didn't run Saturday.. but we aim to run at dawn tomorrow.. 300mph by 3pm your time??? We'll see...
Cheers
Rick

2 passes, 1st small problem with an oil seal meant pulled chutes at the 2...

Fixed it, waited 3.5 hrs to run. Blew engine at 230mph.

So fresh bullet going in today... hope to run last thing.

Car feels AWESOME though...

No running on Monday while fresh engine went in.
Finished up on Tues AM... long queue to run... got 2 miles in... close to 240mph and the car caught fire... methanol pipe union failed.
Quite a lot of damage.
All over?
Well... not with this crew... rewired the important bits and car was ready to run this AM (Weds)...
First pass was good to the 4mile then the chain failed due to lack of cooling (nozzle had melted we hadn't noticed).
Second pass this evening, got sideways off the line, hit by the push truck, stood it on 2 wheels, thought it was going over... saved it and fired it right down the track for a 244mph pass... slow... lack of traction, poor start etc. But car is 100% for tomorrow AM. Last full day. Time to go fast.
All been a bit too exciting.
Rick

With all those problems it sounds like you're trying to do a re-make of the little Indian Rick! Good luck for the last run. [:)]

First pass... spark plug failed... never been seen by our engine guy in 30yrs in this fashion.
Fixed it, fired it down again and it wouldn't pull then large amount of noise etc.... gearbox???

Nope. A sprocket failure. So once again we fixed it and come 5pm fired it down the Salt once more. First gear pulling hard, second gear... 150mph and the car wasn't responding to the helm... BUT I wasn't stopping.
Into third and I ripped all the studs out of the read axle. No drive.
So coasted to a halt and returned to pit.
Where we discovered that in addition to the damage to the front end, the roughness of the track had broken the steering. Bit lucky I didn't get going any quicker....
So it didn't happen. VERY gutted. But quite happy to be in 1 piece after being smoked, on fire, on 2 wheels and directionless.

Tough week. But the Salt has been rough and many teams have suffered. Sometime Bonneville is like that.

Sorry chaps. Failed again
Rick

Sounds as if you went down fighting...better luck next time!

Hacki

P.S.: You survived former East Germany, you´ll make it on the salt.

Thanks guys... sure we'll be back again one day... but perhaps not next year... car is wrecked really. Burnt/shunted etc.
Appreciate support and kind words.

Well done Rick! You're doing something most of us aren't brave/crazy/rich/crazy (*delete as appropriate) enough to do. Would love to visit Bonneville for Speed Week sometime. Whether that's as a spectator or a streamliner-polisher only time will tell!

Sorry to hear you didnt make it, but another Epic adventure trying , sounds like this trip was more exciting than the last. Hope you get another chance in the future..

Do it Rich, you won't be disappointed!

Sorry to hear you had such a tough week Rick, hope you get there again for another bash!
