That'll look nice......ouch!

As I'm in the throws of sorting a nice refurbished front for Beaky - post splitter destruction - I thought new fixings, and things, would be nice for his replacement PU.

On to Lancasters armed with sundry pages from PET covered in highlighter. I did order a new expansion tank while I was about it, but you can still imagine my surprise when the overall bill came to £222.90 []

There was nothing of any real consequence, just lots of screws and washers and stuff, except.....lower lamp end trims, both sides at £33.30 per side. Ouch[], or rather double ouch [][] . Note to me: Check prices when ordering.

But, just to cap it all, when I opened my jiffy bag, one of the end trim bags had been opened and only contained one of the two trims [] []

Having had my PU off and refitted it myself, along with a splitter identical to the one I think you have bought I am struggling to see how the fasteners can amount to that much (which I make in excess of £100 allowing for the lamp trims and header tank - the Turbo one costing a bit more than the n/a I believe), even if they are made of Porsche Ceramic Composite Unobtanium with platinum coating and diamond inlay. OK there are 20 or so of them but surely not £5+VAT each?

If we ignor VAT (thus bill = £189.70):-

Expansion tank £77.68
Boot carpet fixing studs £10.80 (didn't mention them)

2No atachment strips (PU to wing) £8.30
2 No aux lamp gaskets £4.48
10 No Aux lamp nuts £1.80
2 sets Aux lamp trims £56.86
9 No speed nuts £9.80

= £169.72 .'. £19.98 on ther sundry washers, self tapping screws bolts etc.

It all adds up, and I guess I could have reduced the £20 + VAT with commercialy aquired standard fixings but I was pretty well stuck with the other bits.

Whilst the amounts are high it is reassuring to know that these parts are still available new from the manufacturer on a car that is at least 15 Years old, That is something that has impressed me with Porsche and encourages me that whilst I spend money developing and maintianing it, It is unlikely to end up off the road for long for the sake of some small item that went out of production 18 years ago.
I hope this post doesnt come back to haunt me [&:]

PS welcome to the white expansion tank club and be carefull with the small lower fixing (left rear),

It is being fixed as part of a big service, belts etc (and the rogue Scottish fan switch) so I hope it doesn't get lashed.

And just to add to my pain - I realised one of my driving lights had a hole in it but the other one is broken now as well. Looks like a pair of lenses needs adding to the bill. []
