The 991 arrives

Arrived this week, will post some photos soon.

First thoughts, both positive and negative.

The improvement in the sound one hears is fantastic, and timely. My only criticism of my 997 was that, compared to say an Aston or a Ferrari one never really felt they were living with the roaring engine of a supercar. Whereas now, with the flick of the Sport button, it as if the engine is within the cabin, and wow........I think the radio/IPOD will become far more redundant in the 991 as drivers will simply want the engine noise. So whilst I took a good while to delay my upgrade to a 991, I think this issue alone makes it worth it; this is car which really does feel like a daily driver when you want it to be (as the ride in notmal mode is absurdly quiet and comfortable) and then leaps into angry supercar mode when you want it to!

Only one negative for me. Having bought a few new cars before, and then engaged the services of a top quality detailer (Stuart Curtis, of VD Services in Norwich) I realised that a new car (including a new Porsche) is often in quite poor shape in terms of the paintwork. This one is the worst yet; the swirl marks and defects are really very poor for a car of this price and quality. Anyway, not to worry, the car has been driven straight to Stuart and within 24 hours or so it will be looking magnificent.

But I would wholly recommend anyone who purchases a new car to find another few hundred pounds before driving the car too far - get it to a top detailer!

Congratulations on the new motor, Dan. Looking forward to the spec. and pics. [:)]

Interesting comments on paintwork. I wonder how much of this is down to the individual dealer's PDI work.

I was present when my last car was delivered straight off the trailer and took specific note of the paintwork from the factory. This was perfect, but by the time I had taken delivery, I needed to spend a further £300 for paint correction.

Rather than use skilled and experienced staff, some dealers employ young, cheap labour and this results in damage and poor finishes. [&:][&:]

Clive.

Any pics yet Hendrikus? My car also was detailed from day one, with GTeknic protection, and it took a full eighteen hours to achieve perfection on the car. The dealer simply doesn't have that sort of time or money to prep a car, which is why a lot of buyers ask for the car not to have the bodywork touched prior to delivery, and taken straight to their detailers, or in some cases the detailer preps the car at the OPC.
