I've toying with the idea of taking a week or so to see some alpine views next summer. Has anyone got any experience of a similar trip or know of any web sites where I could get so route info etc?

Thanks in advance.

I'll try and dig out some photos if I can find them, but a couple of times now we've taken the Porsche to the town of St Anton am Arlberg in the Austrian Alps. The town is great in the summer because its set up for the winter skiing season, so has all the facilities you could want, plus lots of good hotels that are half empty and competitively priced as its the "off-season". The views in the town and surrounding area are spectacular and the chair-lifts are open if you want to go up to the top and do a bit of walking.

The roads around the area are great - high quality tarmac, sweeping bends etc and all with great views. You're also next to the Hochalpenstrasse:

which is the road everyone thinks they're going to get when they go drive Stelvio and its a disappointment - on this road you won't be disappointed!

You're also an easy drive down into Italy, across to Lichtenstein, Switzerland etc and also close to the castle which inspired the Walk Disney logo - Neuschwanstein.

I took the ferry from Newcastle to Ijmuiden and from there its pretty much a straight blast down through the length of Germany on those wonderful unrestricted autobahns, and you literally pass the door of the Porsche factory in Stuttgart to stop of for a look-see at the museum. You can easily do ferry to austria in a day because of the autobahns.

Overall thoroughly recommended for views, weather, nice peaceful summer spot with great driving all directions.

the drive from Lusanne (Swiss) to Chamonix is excellent - have done this a couple of times, you pass throught the mont blanc tunnel,

also did drive from Chamonix down to north italy, which was stunning, willl try and get the details for you,

anywhere in Black Forrest in Germany is amazing - think of Swiss mountains and your in the black forrest
