THE best Tyre Choice

The best roadster money can buy? Needs the best feet too right?

I love bikes as well as cars and whilst I have not taken my S on the track yet, I have done so for many years on my bike.

I started with the bike as was, then better tyres, better suspension, set up and then better tyres still. Ultimate grip being the target. I currently use Dunlop 208 GP's which are a slick cascus with grade D slick rubber and enough tread pattern in them to make them legal. They are superb but don't last long.

The boxster handles great. Whilst it does not roll, the tyres are the first thing to stick their hands in the air and give up. As a result, I decided to look and find the ultimate in rubber with grip and being 'Legal' being the target rather than a comprimise between tyre life and grip.

Looking around the forums and race sites I narrowed it down to the Toyo R 888 'GG' compound (there are three componds). My local tyre supplier who just happens to be a player in the same football team (veterans I might add!) and he was able to supply the tyres i needed.

However, I have 17" on my car. I did not want to go to 18" and have the instability you can get on a less than perfect road. However, the issue was that a 205/50/17 was not available. After checking rolling radiuses, we were able to establish the 225/45/17 was only 2 mm difference in rolling radius and gave the car a little extra on the front.

Had these fitted yesterday. UNBELIEVABLE! let me tell you, they will not last long and maybe the suggested 2000 miles will be some what less. However, I have never had as much fun in a car before. My wife came out for a while and on one bend screamed 'We are going to fall over!!' However, not an once of slip or slide was present.

In essence, if you want never before experianced grip, give them a try. the best £540 I spent!
