The Best Tyres for a 987 Boxster?

In anyone's experience, opinionor knowledge, what is the best tyre to go for for everyday use, all year round on a 987 Boxster?

Can't comment of 17" tyre sizes, but for 18s or 19s then Michelin.

More expensive but last longer, very consistent in wet n dry and road noise pretty good.

Michelins seem to win lots of fans on 9x7 and 9x6 cars - Bridgestones might be another option but the reports are a little mixed.

Thanks for that. Any particular Michelins? I've got the 18's on my car.

I only got it a couple of weeks ago - wanted one for ages! I knew exactly the model I was after and took months to find one at the right price, but finally got it!! It's an 05, black with black leather with the bose system, PCM and sat nav and even the crested wheel centres. Just had another full service too. It's a 2.7 tip, which for me is the ideal model. The S would have been great, but just so much more to run and insure. It was difficult enough finding a sensible-ish quote for the 2.7 because of my age.

There is a bespoke list of Porsche approved tyres, designated by the N rating on the side wall (which is in addition to the speed rating). No idea what N rating yours are as sorry, but suspect they will be either N0 or N1. N0 would be the original approval, N1, N2 etc are later approvals. You should have matching N rated tyres all round - sometimes if changing just 2 tyres its difficult to find N0 tyres, if N1s have been on sale for some time - i personally wouldn't worry about it, but Porsche may invalidate any extended warranty if they discover a mixture of ratings. If you are on N0 now and 1 is the current supply then Porsche would have you replace all tyres to the later version.

I believe even 18s are Michelin Pilot Sport 2 model.

I've never heard anyone say they don't like the Michelins - however I have heard very vocal criticism against certain other brands!

I've just changed Wheels and tyres from 17" shod with Pilot Sport (supplied on my Boxter from new) to 19" Porsche Turbo Alloys shod with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A "˜N0' rated. It's not a straight comparison as I have increased the wheel dia by 2" and the width by 1" on the front and 1½" on the rear but they are very impressive especially on the track. Even with more tread on the road I would say they were slightly quieter. I'm not hard on tyres getting 27,000 miles out of my first set (fronts were still good for 10,000 miles). The Michelins wore in the centres which I was told was normal. Tyres must be N rated for Porsche approval and during my extensive research I was told that N0 and N1 are both ok.

If you are interested in the Bridgestone then the RE050A is the one for out and out performance where as the RE050 is designed for higher levels of comfort; it depends on exactly what you want from the tyre. The RE050 is a directional tyre and its main strength is to negate hydroplaning. The RE050A is an asymmetrical tyre that has half the tread given to water evacuation and traction with the other side focussing on the cornering and thus combining to give a very high performance tyre in all conditions. Bridgestone can supply you with a technical sheet if interested. Hope this helps.
