The best tyres for the 996

Try a search - it's your friend. [;)] Tyres and exhausts are probably the two most discussed topics and there are lots of threads to read through. A quick tip when searching is to put a time filter (one year, perhaps) otherwise you don't get any results.

You'll find the top choices are:- Michelin and Pirelli. Continental used to be a top choice but they no longer make N rated tyres for Porsche.

IMHO the Michelin Pilot sport cups are the best for grip in all weathers and least noisy...

Probably most expensive but worth every penny....unless you drive like miss daisy

Contis still seem to be readily available - mytyres.co.uk have all P-sizes listed. I noticed that the Dunlops no longer appear on the May 2008 Approved Tyres list, so if Contis aren't going to be around, then the choice is getting a bit restrictive.

Incidentally, my brother pnoned his insurance company (RAC) about fitting non-approved tyres to his Cayenne. They told him that as long as they were the correct type, size and speed rating then there would be no problem, and added a note to his policy to confirm it.

I've got Contis on my 996, alot grippier than my brothers PZeros that are on his Porsche...

Perhaps thats just because mine are brand new though [:)]

Continentals definitely produce N rated tyres in all the 996 sizes. I've called various tyre dealers and they have confirmed they can get them. Same price as Pirellis, cheaper than Michelins. Try Blackcircles.com. I've even emailed Continental to check and they have no plans to stop production of existing N rated tyres. OPCs, however, will tell you otherwise. Go figure. Continental must really have p***ed someone off at Porsche.

Contis - VERY NOISY. However, my top priority is handling and grip, so I dont mind much.

+Is the C4 tiptronic 0-60 really 6 seconds?! Feels alot quicker... I'm gonna test it when I get my car back.
