The big day finally arrived

I think this my first post on this forum? Anyway, collected my luverly new 987S yesterday. I took the whole day off work so I could take her for a drive into Wales - gently as there was quite a bit of snow around.

The car is brilliant and lives up to my expectations in every way. My only concern is that there seems to be quite a lot of transmission whine, especially at low road speeds through the lower gears, more than I remember when I borrowed an identical demonstrator car for a day a couple of months ago. The dealer says it is normal. What do others think?

I've just tried to upoad a picture of the car but a message came back telling me the file is too large at 1.51 meg. I'll try again when I can compress the photo a bit more.

Hi Critch , wit till you get your favourite music on loud, glorious sunshine and the roof down. Happy days , cheers Andy Mac

Congrats critch and a good place to try the beast out.

Not sure whether you are 2.7 or 3.2S but neither should have ANY transmission whine

Thanks Black8oxsa. The car is a 3.2S and there is definitely a whine. Sounds more like final drive than gearbox but hard to tell. Not sure what to do really, as the car is only a day old and the salesman says the noise is normal. I think I'll write to the dealer describing the 'problem' and the salesman's reply - just to cover myself in case anything happens and to prove that I've told them about it. I could do with letting an independent expert have a drive in it though. Maybe I'm just being super-critical as I'm VERY sensitive to unusual noises.

I'm also surpised at how hard the ride is on standard 18s. The demonstrator was fitted with PASM (with 19s) and I had it switched off so the ride seemed quite comfy. I'm not complaining at all and if I sound as though I'm disappointed in any way then I'M NOT. It's just that if there is a problem with the car I want to know NOW, so something can be done about it. Cheers, Critch.

P.S. I am a fully paid up member by the way - I must get PCGB to change my status on the bulletin board.

Mine arrived yesterday too, but I've taken a week and a half off!

Absolutely brilliant car (987S). It's got the pace, cornering and connectedness of a go cart, plus full leather, air con, convertible, cool noise and presence. If only I didn't have to run it in!
