The Big Question: 924S or 944

Hi All,

I've been looking for a 924 for a while, specifically a 924S (I fancy something with a bit more poke than the n/a and the type of driving I do doesn't justify a turbo), but have recently come across a place with a couple of mint condition cars. One 944, and one 924S. Both within my price-range, both the right colour, both would be great but...

Which to choose??

I'm not sure on the exact years of the cars in question, but the 944 is a 2.5Lux with the post '85 oval dash, so is pretty comparable to the 924S, so I'm told. Is that right?

What do you reckon I should go for: 924S or 944

(The gauntlet has been thrown down, now lets get the debate going!!)

The S is a Little faster as It's lighter...It also More exclusive!
I too wanted a 944..(As a second Car at the time) My budget was Limited to £2500...All the 944 at that price were quite poor in relation the 924S....Obviously It's subjective to ones taste But I actually prefer the 924 Shape over the 944..especially if it's the right Colour and has been kept good condition..(Bodywork etc)...
Running cost I assume are the same as the car is pretty much the same engine and Brakes....
Mine is an E 1988..Zermatt Silver..
Just make you get a Good one!
Although I've Been Looking at the 928's.. over a few weeks I haven't Found a Good one for less than 8K..So I'll be sticking with the 924S..which is now my everday driver
Good Luck

Same car different shape. You takes your choise. I chose the 924S as I prefer the less 'in your face' image.
Buy and enjoy.

I agree with the above, the 924 S will probably be a better and more exclusive car than a 44 at the same price, condition is everything though and I have heard some nasty tales about rusty sills on 44's....

Well exactly the same sills are fitted to a 924s, so that's NOT the Unique Selling Point...[;)]

On the road, the 924s attracts less attention and is as quick. On track, the 944 is better, as you can get more tyre in the wheelwells. I've go the 924s...and am not about to change it.

Have to agree, I bought a 924 n/a solely on price and DIY fixability, but if I was to "upgrade" I'd probably go for the S, for the same reason as most, if its a daily drive or a pleasure drive, the S is lot less in your face.

Its very difficult to say which (I guess I'm bias though as I own a 924S) I have days when I really like the 944 and then there's days that I'm really happy I brought a 924 rather than a 944. I do have to agree though I think the 924 is little more exclusive than a 944 (ooh get him). But I really like the look of the 944 S2 (Turbo) clean looking.
The only problem is a 924 really gets under your skin, I own a 911 and a 924, and it's the 911 which is up for sale, not the 924! So go on, test drive some, then buy and have some fun. And dont forget to post some pictures.

Happy Hunting

Marc
