The Cheapest Boxster Oil Change??

I can't see Halfords on the 2007 Porsche Approved Oils list...........[;)][;)]

It's probably perfectly good stuff, but it isn't Porsche approved.

Richard - I see your point. But it was listed on the container as well as the website.

I just realised it says that the spec meets what is demanded by these manufacturers. It doesnt say "Porsche approved".

I was about to buy some Motul from Opie Oils when I saw this in Halfords and started thinking!

Like many oils - they may say they "meet the demands of...." but it doesn't mean they are actually manufacturer approved. I noticed the Fuchs Supersyn when I was browsing and printed off the data sheet. I know it comes highly recommended so I'll give it another look.

I tend to veer toward the oils which are packaged in 5L rather than 4L containers for the Boxster. buying the odd 1L starts to get expensive (Although I know that it's cheaper to buy good oils in the long run, I only do 2-3k in a year in the Boxster[:)]).

I'll probably go to Northway for my Autumn service. I wonder what they use these days.

If Halfords pays Porsche more money than Mobil 1, then Halfords can get it's sticker on the car....

We normally have to tell our dealerships or bring our own Mobil1.

I always take my own oil (buy from Costco or France) and save a substantial amount of the service cost as there is such a huge markup on oil with the OPCs; I am sure if I take anything not on the Porsche approved list then they will refuse to use it.

Most oil looks the same colour on the dipstick (although I think Honda used to use a blue dye in theirs). Can you be sure they actually use what you take to the OPC ?[;)]

They usually give you back the empty containers.

On the other hand how do you know they are pumping Mobil 1 in from the plumbed-in distribution system...?

You have to trust them a little bit [:D]

I've taken my own Mobil 1 to my independent for each service (apart from the v recent one) but I've never been given the empty containers back! Not asked for them either so I guess it is on trust that they use it, but like Russbird, the thought has occurred to me....

Anyway, invoice for the service I've just had done shows Mobil 1 at 11.68 pr Ltr when you add in the vat! Will take my own next time!
