The urge to sell my 944S2 and Mondeo and buy a Jag is becoming stronger every day.[:(]

Tell me I'm mad....or better still tell me why I'd be mad to buy one of these as my everyday car

Not as an everyday car, surely? Join the AA, it will break down all the time, and learn to weld as it'll rust around you if you take it out! [8|]

don't be silly Paul I wouldn't actually drive it in the rain [:D] or snow or hail ....or ice.............or sun or if it was too windy.[:D]

Giles ....no children but I could sell the wife's horses and doberman [;)]

I'm known to be a big fan of the S type Jag in a 2.7 TTD , now that is a sensible classy every day car.

Sell the Mondeo m8ee that's a given yuk

What you need is one of these [;)]

Wouldn't that be nice. One or two minor issues (or 69000)

I can see the attraction, but where would you put the hay, tack etc. - having seen the pictures of your Mondeo the other week.......[:)]

Peanut,

Truly my type of man. I have several times thought that a good Mk2 Jag would be about the only thing to tempt me away from my S2.

Why not? Reliability (British-built cars of the 60's vs. German engineering from the 80's? I know which I would bet my AA membership on!), parts prices, parts availability, rust, fuel consumption. And cost to buy. And the sinking feeling that you know will happen on a cold, wet morning, when your only means of transport just won't, for love nor money, sodding-well start ...

As a second car tho' (with a fat bank balance), I'd have one in a heartbeat. BRG please, with tan interior. And wire wheels. And knock-off spinners. Oh mummy I want one so badly I can almost taste it ...

crikey .........I wouldn't let the wife anywhere near it [:(][:(][:(] and as for that mangy mutt of hers !.........

I bought her a 2.0lt Mondeo Ghia (petrol) before xmas but she reckons its too expensive to run so I had to go buy another Mondeo (1.8 TD) yesterday so now we have two of the bluudy things .

I wouldn't mind but I've put £100.00 worth of petrol in the 1st Mondy for her since Xmas and she hasn't put in a single £1.00 yet and she reckons its too expensive to run ?[&o]

Oli.

Oli maybe we should share one ? Trouble is I'd like a black one with linen interior or a white one with red interior or maybe a silver one with......but I agree about the wire wheels and spinners ooooooooooooh

I should have bought the half retored one that was on ebay before Christmas . It had a fully rebuilt engine and went for £3000 If only I had another car space ...[&o]

Nick,

I'd settle for white/red if it was Old English white. Probably. As long as you weren't constantly confused for a wedding car by the hopeless halfwits of this world.

(Oh, and you'd have to chase me if you wanted to get me out of the driving seat ... !)

Who would repair it when it goes wrong? [;)]

oh I could repair it.( 35 years of classic car restoration work on this period.) They really are very simple cars. Fairly good at welding and brazing too. These cars even had lead wiped into the metal panels around the lights ! I can do that too. (smartass)

I would be happy to be a passenger as long as you let me drive once in a while

Who would clean it ?

I remember hearing that one of the biggest costs on Morse was the never ending upkeep of that car. There were numerous scenes changed as Morse was supposed to drive in or out of the scene but the car wouldn't work so they stood around it a bit.

Get promax to fit an LS2?

if I had an LS2 I'd want to keep my S2 lol

Good idea ...but then again part of the charm of these old classics is working on them in the pouring rain on the side of some busy dual carriagway in the middle of nowhere in the dark [;)][;)][;)]

Lovely to look at...but to drive ? Not so sure about that.

to be honest I've never driven one which is why over the years it has become an obsession to own one.
When I first left home and set up in a bedsit in 1968 , my Landlord always had 5-6 Mkll and S types in his garden. He used to get one out for testing at night time and scream off up the road with the tyres screeching in first and second . The sound of that lovely engine I just had to have one from that moment .

I'd be happy to clean it ... I'd even hoover it once in a while ...

Snag is, I only have on-street parking, and it would be out in all weathers. So it would need to live with you, and if I was the cleaner-in-chief we'd have a beautifully maintained but very dirty Jag.

Which wouldn't be good.
