The force was weak today ................

Today was the end of a very enjoyable chapter of Porsche ownership for me as I saw my 964 RS being driven away by someone else [:(]. After a lot of consideration, I decided that I wasn't getting much use out of it and probably wouldn't over the next couple of years. I have really enjoyed going to Porsche events and track days in the RS but they have been limited in number this year. Living in London I am also tight for garage space so storing it and not using it seems a waste.

Highlights in 2.5 years of ownership have been the car's astonishing ability on track (even with me driving [:D]), the pleasure of driving a no frills sports car hard and the many good friends I have made. The fact that the car has been 100% reliable, relatively cheap to run and appreciated a little is a real bonus. Drives through the Brecon Beacons and trips to SPA and the Ring will stay with me for many years. The only downsides have been that the car isn't well suited to poorly surfaced roads and that I have had to part company with it. At least I know it has gone to a good home - Rich, I hope you have as much fun with the car as I did.

As for me, I am on the look out for a lightweight, classic, collectable/special, 4 seat, zero depreciation, engine in the back where it should be Porsche so if you know of such a beast then please let me know. Failing that, I am open to suggestions if you have any and if I should find something interesting at least I will be in a position to make a purchase and have space to keep it. I have a sneaking suspicion I will be back in the seat of a special 911 as soon as it dawns on me what a stupid thing I have done but there was only one way to find out.

In the meantime, I will continue looking for a large garage with a house attached to buy in Chiswick so I can get started on my dream garage. I will be concentrating my trackday activity in the UK on 2 wheels and I am in the process of buying a car for dedicated use at the Nurburgring with a couple of friends as this place is fascinating and I really want to get to know it a little better having made a few trips last year.

I will have use of my brothers 993 (he doesn't know this yet [;)]) and will still be joining in and keeping in touch so you are not rid of me yet. Hope to see you all soon and many thanks for the help and banter which has really made ownership a pleasure.

May the force be with you ...........

Post here in two weeks time and tell us of the massive withdrawl symptons you will be suffering, there is NO Porsche that will replace a 64RS if you think you will find it in a 2+2 911 you won't they never made one, sorry to be a bit negative but if the reason was for a couple of kiddie seats then believe me they will hardly sit on them.....sure you don't need the dough...will earn more interest than the bank and tax free and more fun....sorry I feel I'm giving you a bollocking here and should not...you were and are great addition the 964RS/Register and Fraternity will be missed, but look forward to welcoming you back once Cold Turkey gets the better .......start looking at H&S, GT Classics, Mobile.de etc etc etc etc can't see you in a 996C4 Cab Tip.....

Sad day Feroz - hope you find what you are looking for! I agree Porsches need to be used and I have gone through your feelings many times. Let us know what you end up buying.

It has been good to finally meet you this year and thanks for your help in a couple of areas.

Don't be a stranger and your welcome to passenger rides whenever I bump into you.

BACK BE YOU WILL

pop across to DDK as it sounds like an early car is just what you are looking for ;)

Feroz

I feel for you. I hope you find something that will "scratch the itch!" I hope you still keep posting because not only is "the force strong" with you, but you are also a "wise master Jedi"!

Now u can go and buy a proper car ..............only joking , buy u a coffee to make up for it!

Hey Feroz,
I'm sorry to hear that you parted company with your 64RS. She was a real beauty and I know you looked after her with the best you could give her.
Still hope to see you around and you are always welcome to any of the club/London region events!
Cheers,
Adrien

Feroz, Have you seen doctor about this "weak force" ? You'll end up buying another that will cost you much more!

What about a change of colour? The Maritime Blue should sort you out!

Good luck with a replacement. M030 like Des's, perhaps?

If you need 4 seats a 968 Sport is very good. I use my CS for road and track use and it is very civilised compared to a RS and cheap cheap cheap!

Panamera maybe?[;)]

That was a crafty move getting your bro to buy a 993.......[:D]

Keep in touch!

Hi

24hrs have passed and I am ok so far - the fact that it has been chucking it down today has made it easier!

James - I have been looking on ddk and went to see Andre's very nice 73 RS replica. Beautiful car and drove very well but I think the early cars will need too much looking after for some one as inept with a spanner as me.

Vic - Coffee sounds good, I am off to UBS in Jan so plenty of free time between now and then.

I will definitely be keeping in touch and still join in the events etc so see you then.

Who's going to the Ace this Monday?

Regards

Feroz

It was good to meet you this year. Sorry to hear about your sale. At least doing it in the winter should be less painful. It'll be one of those cold winter mornings or when the sun starts to return next spring when you really miss her.

I was really interested to read your earlier reference to your Ring trips last year. Until November this year, I have been a Ring virgin and now I can't get the place out of my head. I went on a private RMA day and rented a car rather than take the 64RS - such is the respect I have for the place.[8|] On day two I was wishing I had something with more power but something as quick as the 64RS must take some serious skill to master round the Ring. I'm intrigued by your plan to purchase a Ring car with some friends. I've been discussing this with a few people myself. Why did you decide not to keep the 64RS for your Ring trips? How are you going about building this Ring car? Are you going to keep it over in Germany? Perhaps we need a new thread for this, but I'd be really interested to hear your reasons and plans.

All the best

Feroz, also sorry to hear you've let the RS go. As you know, I've owned a variety of Porsche over the years and none were as enjoyable on track as the 964RS. If you want to match all the criteria you've set out, sounds like you need to look for a good 2.7 RS Touring [:)] You don't have to be a mechanic to own one, just get a specialist to look after it.

I was with Tim at the Ring earlier this month, for the first time, so also very keen to hear about your plans for a Ring toy, start another thread!

I'm not in the City so much these days but it would be good to catch up...

Nigel

PS I get loads of junk email about curing the "weak force" so will fwd them on to you!

Sorry to hear you've sold - but hats off to you you've more will power than me, I've got as far as advertising the car three times but bottled out every time. Good luck with finding a repacement - worth looking for the 2.7 reps with a good 3.6 motor.

Tony

Hi

Thanks for all the kind words of sympathy but I am really not that sad - I see this as an opportunity to try something else. I don't have enough space to keep cars/bikes I won't use and I just don't see myself using it much in the next couple of years. I am sure I will miss the car but if I miss it that badly I will go and buy another!! It also gives me an opportunity to try something else if the right car should come along.

I have looked at a couple of early cars and this was where I thought I was headed. Problem has been that the cars I have seen (a 2.4 S, a 73 RS Replica and a 2.4E) haven't really been good enough for a fussy person like me. They look fantastic and drive so well but I am put off by the fact that they look like they will constantly need tidying and I am afraid of rust!! I actually prefer the cars with the earlier engines, they seem a bit more rev happy which I really like. I missed a very nice car late summer so will keep an eye out and am open minded and welcome suggestions or leads.

Nigel - Would be great to meet up if you are in town or elsewhere. I think I'll have to get a ride in your fantastic 2.7 RS to convince me (I am sure it would take all of a minute) but wonder whether I would find it too precious. If you ever decided to liquidate part of your collection to make room for something more exotic then please give me a call as I would be happy to help out [:D]. Would love to have a garage like yours!!

And as for Project RB (Ring B1tch) as it has become affectionatley known, I will start another thread. The proof of concept has been completed and you will be surprised to hear it was one of the best road/track trips I have done but you will laugh when you read the details and think I have definitely lost my marbles. Just reminded me of how simple it is to enjoy driving good roads in good company.

The project is a work in progress so ideas welcome.
