The Future Is Orange at A Price

Went to test drive the Boxster 3.4 today and whilst there I saw the future and it maybe "orange" after all [:D]

3.4 really didn't feel any quicker or sound any nicer than my current 3.2 version and apart from the engine it seems to have zero other mods to the original 987 ... Maybe MY08 it will get a face-lift before boredom creeps in [&o]

I am suprised .... I felt the 3.4 was noticibly different to our 3.2S around 4K revs

Above 4500rpm I think it did have more push to it but below 4.5K it felt very samey and as I spend most of my time below 4.5K it wasn't enough to make me think it's worth the change from 3.2 to 3.4 especially as there are zero physical differences [&o] Plus an OPC abused demo car always feels quicker than my own pampered example for some reason [:D]

3.4 demo we drove had 70 miles on the clock ... I think your rights below 4K they are very similar .. however I felt once pushed the 3.4 car was much more "agressive" than our 3.2 (6000 on the clock .. pampered ...one track day ) car .. ours has PSM and Sports chrono .. FWIW demo one did'nt and I'd not do it again

IMHO 3.4 is not worth the jump .. if its just coz ... however as we had planed on (yet another) 2 year swop .. it seems logical to plan to do a 3.4 in may next year

I agree with all of that and would add that my demo had 1400 miles and 19" on standard suspension against my 5K+ gentle all dry miles to date on 18" which give a far superior ride over the 19's [;)] Reading the bumph on vario cam and vario cam + I would have expected a bit more noticeable torque between 2-4.5K but sadly didn't [&o]

If I sold my car privately then I would make the switch but as dealers are no longer paying private money for mint used examples, even though they still retail them for a few thousand below list [] I can't see me and my fab 987 parting company for now

Robert,

it looks gorgeous, both Ali and I WANT that orange![:)]

Nic, if your future is Orange then get the side air intakes in orange too; apart from a silver or gray car does anything actually like the idea of their air intake being in the plastic silver finish irrelevant of the car colour?

Oh, can someone please let us know when the new sports design version is on display at an OPC; would love to see it in person:

OPC Bristol had 987S with sports design package on it a week ago - not sure if it's still there.
Looked very nice, especially rear spoiler but front spoiler lips made me notice the car initially.

Are there actually NO VISUAL difference between a 3.2 and a 3.4 at all - even one that only geeks like us can spot???

Yes orange does look the biz but I wouldn't have the balls to do it....And Rob, have you moved - that doesn't look like East London to me!

Dappula I work in the East but live in the North and my main man at the East PC is no longer there [&o] East PC didn't have a 3.4 demo car anyway! it seems all the PCGB owned outlets do though [:D]

The salesman said the only way you visually can tell a 3.2 from the 3.4 will be by the reg plate ie 56 cars are 3.4's and if you have a personal reg then the answer is "NO" even geeks like us will be fooled. As I have a personal plate I guess I can say mine is the latest model if any non geeks ask :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Agree on the £2000 optional "Orange" [8D]
