Yes I remember this article when Porsche posted it on the social media last year. Incredible and awesome to see that the 944 Turbo was used as a test bed for a new technology. I really do love this about Porsche, only yesterday I saw a picture of a 928 which was on show in the Porsche museum with some bizzarre exhaust system fitted to the rear hatch (yes the glass rear hatch). Apparently it was a specially adapted 928 which was used to record the outside noise generate by the subject car that was being tested. So the 928 had to be as quiet as possible so not to affect the test results. It was fitted with sensitive sound recording equipment.

It wasn't just the test bed, the plan was to launch the first 944 Turbo with a PDK transmission but there were problems with reliability and also that the car would jerk forward when downshifting, IIRC due to there not being fast enough electronic switches available at the time, think they only had hydraulic. Test reports showed that with PDK the 951 was very fast loosing no boost with each gear change. We can only imagine just how fast considering that Porsche are on record of stating during the late 80's that the 951 was the fastest car in their fleet...??
