The infamous heater control clip

Hi all,

Just back from Silverstone - the weekend looks great if you're coming!

My heater has defaulted to hot, and it's dark and raining now. What tools do I need to take tomorrow to effect a repair in the display area? I'm assuming some stout wire and some sort of screw-removing device......[8|]

Thanks for that...

I have had an exploratory look, and there is a dangling rod and what looks like a broken plastic clip. I had assumed no other parts required...

Regards,

Tref.

Lol - I asked for the part numbers as PET won't load on my PC but no-one replied yet!

Part numbers pleeeeeze [&:]

ok... following the Clarks Garage Guide, I have ordered both parts from Porsche Centre Bournemouth...

There was no metal clip on mine, so I am guessing it went AWOL when the plastic bit broke.

Knowing the plastic bit is cheap I was expecting a horendous bill for the metal clip...

Anyway... todays prices are:

944.572.314.00 - "bearing" - a white plastic clippy thing - ÂŁ0.37
944.572.217.00 - can't remember the official title, but a metal clip - ÂŁ0.24

All plus VAT, and I forgot to ask for club discount...I think I can live with it.

I accept no reposnsibility for any errors in the above information, but you can be sure I will bleat on here if it turns out not to be the parts required!

Hope this helps some-one in the future.

All the best,

Tref.

I have air blowing in my face constantly (only a bit). I assume its a similar fix, just different rod? [8|]

The servo motors can sieze with lack of use, I had success with stripping one, lubricating and exercising it (motor direct on battery).
the Porsche manuals (as available for download from Ricks site) have a quite detailed section on trouble shooting the heater system.

Mine's blowing hot too. Had a quick look over the weekend, but didn't realise it's a glovebox out job. In that case it's time for me to replace the hinges too! No time to fix it before Saturday, so looks like we'll bve in shorts for the run up to Cornbury House...

Correction to above post, as the wire had come off, I've duct-taped the metal rod to it's proper position so the heat control works as normal until the part arrives next week.

Will it still be attached for the Cotswold Rally (or will something else drop off to stop you getting to Cornbury)

Don't forget you can join the van Register with Peter E and I :ROFLMAO:

Well, it's front-engined rear-wheel-drive.....and useful room in the back! [&:]

My car ran like a dream to the AGM and back. I'm crossing everything I've got that it will be fine on Sunday! []

Thanks Paul... yes I am currently revelling in being able to control the temperature whether I need to or not!

Whilst the glovebox is out now tempted to have a look at that other 944 classic - the clock... time for a different thread.
