Hi,
Having driven and impressed by a Boxster S which I took out from a subscription based car club 4 years ago, I have now saved enough to buy my very first Porsche. Since my wife can only drive an automatic car, I've decided to look for a second hand tiptronic Boxster so that she can share the fun. I wonder how a tiptronic compares with a manual Boxster. Shall I focus on 3.2 and 2.7 and forget about the 2.5?
I've been looking for the last two weeks and have seen about 6 cars. A few observations I would like to share with the forum:
1. Most current/previous owners of tiptronics are female. This may be good news for the second hand car buyers like myself because statistically they tend not to push the car so hard. The true racers would not go for the tiptronic option in the first place.
2. Most sellers would include cruise control in their car spec, and it turned out to be the trip computer stalk in all cases. I have not seen a Boxster with cruise control yet.
3. My budget is around 22K. I test drove a few 2000/1 BoxsterS tiptronics and a 2002 2.7 facelift tiptronic. May be I am not the racer type, I just could not experience much performance difference between the 3.2 and 2.7. I found the 2.7 facelift a better car to drive, perhaps it is newer. I also like the heated glass rear screen and glove compartment; not sure about the club holder though.
4. The cars within my buget are not stocked by the main dealers. The private sellers and independent dealers I've met so far are all very nice and helpful. Yet to meet the Aurthor Daley types. I wonder if it is a good time to buy the Boxster now or shall I wait for another month or two? Any information on good/bad dealers, market information and things to avoid would be much appreciated.
Your experience and knowledge would definitely help me to get a better Boxster with the budget I have.
Many thanks.
Gilbert
