The Longest Day

Wednesday 21 June is the Summer Solstice or longest day in the Northern Hemisphere.

Last year some of us celebrated the date by performing an old pagan ritual of eating and drinking until sunset. Yorkshire members travelled in Porsches to distant foreign lands, (Derbyshire) to meet with the Wise Old Druid Randolph Coward and the East Midland Region.

This year I propose we go the Great Britain's highest inn - The Tan Hill Inn near Reeth. The Inn is 70 miles north of Wetherby, up the A1, A66 then on country roads.

I propose we meet at the Little Chef on the A1 north, just after the A168/A19 turnoff for 6.30. Food will be available at the Tan Hill.

Please post here if you want to go and if you require food. Their web site is www.tanhillinn.com for more information.

Would you chaps mind if R3 (North East) come along too? It is just on the 'border' of the two regions. What route are you proposing to take to get there? When travelling to events south of here R3 tend to meet up at Scotch Corner. Let me know and I'll post a link on the R3 forum.
Cheers,

Graham

if the weather is nice I'll come along seeing as its not far from where I live :)

I recommend the scenic route rather than the A66 though [;)]

Thanks guys..........Longest day? Nights drawing in?.......I'm totally depressed now. What about summer.................I'm gonna go build me an arc and stick it on our overflowing rivers..............And remember...don't wash your car there's a drought.[][&:]

CG - Come along the more the merrier. My thoughts were to get to Tan Hill by the shortest / quickest route possible as it is so far north of the region. I know there are a few scenic runs but we may end up getting there at midnight, and if we are coming straight from work, we would want to get a bite to eat. You could go on your run and we will meet you there.

Hi Martin,

A little toofar for us in Sheffield, cannot get to the rendavous for the time mentioned.

Have fun on your run.

Regards

Adam & Irene

We are still going on Wednesday to the Tan Hill Inn, I hope to catch up with some of the Guys from the Northeast region. We will meet at the Little Chef on the A1 north, just after the A168/A19 turnoff for 6.30.

Martin,

At the moment it is just me coming from R3, but James Charnley had expressed interest but was getting his suspension rebuilt yesterday, so may not be able to come along. Nevertheless, I look forward to seeing you and am aiming to be at Tan Hill at about 8ish, I guess.
Cheers,

Graham
