The M4 hates my 944...

I've just had a week off and decided to spend it clambering up Lake District mountains in the pouring rain. However, having never been to the Donnington Grand Prix museum I thought i would detour via that on the way up. So last Tuesday i pointed my 944 down the M4 and immediately pulled into an hour long traffic jam before I could get off at Maidenhead as they'd closed the M4 for some reason.

Once i got to the lakes it was wonderful, apart from the copious quantities of rain. The 944 is wonderful for driving in the mountains. I drove over the Kirkstone Pass which had superb views. A fabulous drive. The most memorable part of the drive was when i was driving down the shore of Thirlmere looking for the place to start my hike, when i heard a loud noise. Looking to my right a fighter jet passed me flying at the same altitude above the lake as me! Superb!

On the way back down South I was ahead of Google maps estimated time by almost an hour (in company with a couple of Audis we may have ummhhh, bent the limit by a teensy bit). All was good until I reached Maidenhead, where I spent an hour and a half earlier this afternoon circumnavigating the roundabout to get onto the M4. The only conclusion I can come to is that the M4 hates 944s, or at least it seems to hate mine.

Cumbria loves 944's though.................................try the western lakes next time you are up this way Ennerdale/Loweswater and the like.

Jim, West Cumbria (Been raining again today....bugger !)

I agree with Jim...... For driving roads the West Lake District has some of the best!

The Loweswater - Crummock - Buttermere Valley, Honister Pass and Borrowdale Valley is hard to beat.
