The Pay as You Go Tax Scheme Petition

There is only a few days until the cut of of the 20th February left to register your objection to the 'Pay As You Go' road tax.

The petition is on the 10 Downing St website

I have been told that 750,000 signatures are required for the government to at least take any notice and its not there yet

Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with a link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition.

As you might have read, the government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.

On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit, we can only guess thatsome time in the future automatic Notice of Intended Prosecution will arrive with the monthly bill.

If you are interested in signing ...

Note to Admins .. its only just Boxster related (as in its motoring) so if there is a better forum for it to go on please move it .. if its "wrong for me to post it" please delete it

Me too signed up.

Have you noticed the proliferation of pay as you go schemes? The other day on the forum someone was discussing pay as you go insurrance - will everything become PAYG.
Will i then get a discount from the wife for frequent use or a so many miles free like mobile phone rates?

Just curious

IT'S ALL GETTING TO "BIG BROTHER" FOR MY LIKING!!
JUST YET ANOTHER EXCUSE TO GET MORE MONEY OUT OF THE MOTORIST!![:(]

Thanks Graeme for telling us about it.

I've signed. There are now 888,433 signatures! Does that mean we've done it?

Looks like 1.6 Million people can be "bullied" by this goverment

"
The government will win over critics of its road-toll scheme before plans go through parliament, Transport Minister Stephen Ladyman has insisted."

I signed a couple of other petitions whilst I was there - I got a responseyesterday from 'old Tony about the ID Cards one.

Apparrently it's great, because it's only £3 a year, and it's not a personal infringement as it will hold less data than the average store card.

SO WHAT'S THE BLOODY POINT THEN?

(oh yes - the point is they can get £30 every 10 years from all those who don't have a passport...[&:])

I signed the petition a while ago, I just thought I'd make the point that this actually makes my blood boil. The government think we're stupid. A "pay as you go tax"! What the F*&K do they think taxing fuel is??!?!?!? Oh yeah I forgot there was an outrage last time they increased that too much, so lets think of another more expensive way to tax the motorist. We'll spend millions putting in a satelite tracking system to see where every car is at any one time, just in the name of taxing people as they go? Give me a break!

(Only my second post and Im already on my soap box!)
