The unthinkable and totally unbearable

Greetings ladies and gentlemen

Yes, most unfortunately, its finally happened. The unthinkable that I have been dreading.

My most prized unmarked zermatt silver 924S, zoomster, has now had its right front wing and spoiler crumpled by someone who, lets just say, couldn't have been the sharpest pencil in the box in the driving stakes, as they reversed into it on Easter day, totally oblivious of their own rearview mirror. Most depressing; totally ruined my Easter.

I would therefore be most gratefuil for your very helpful tips and hints on how to proceed with the insurance especially in obtaining replacement wings and spoiler as I am not too keen on a polyfilla job.

The big question is, are these parts available for the 1988 924S or can any earlier 924 parts fit. Secondly, would it be available in zermatt silver or need to be resprayed (hopefully not).

All comments gratefully accepted and I look forward very much to receiving these.

Hopefully they will keep the Prozac at bay.

Many thanks in anticipation

Cheers

Shad

Sorry to hear about the bad news Shad.

Your insurance should enable you to go to the repair station of your choice. Just one quote is usually required these days. I would take it to a reputable Porsche independent specialist.

Wings are delivered in primed condition and therefore will need painting. A specialist painter will be needed to colour match the rest of the vehicle.

Shad...Read My previous Post....
My Passsenger wing was Crunched...(in Jan08) And the the insurance wanted to write it off....
I'm still looking for a decent wing...at least you have my empathy...

True. The OEM parts could well surpass the value of the car. Breakers/local body shop would be the way I'd go then supply the quote to your insurance.

Many thanks for all the comments gents

I can hardly believe that it was being writen off for just minor (relatively) damage. £4000?!!! Must be a 'Roller' garage !!

Hopefully things will work out as I believe that panels are still available (911 bodyshop Wembley).

Thanks again

Cheers

Collect the insurance money and buy it back for peanuts, then get the bits off ebay(or complete car for spares).
You may even end up in pocket with your car also repaired too[;)]

cococola is right, the price of dealer parts are likely to write the car off after fitting and painting and don't go for spurious parts cos they're awful quality. You can buy it back off the insurance company for 'scrap value' which was £25 for my Mk1 Golf, i can't seriously see it taking you more than a few days to get another wing off ebay but the bumper could take longer. Loads of scrappers list cars they are breaking for parts but focus more on part condition (rust free) and put colour second. When it comes to painting make sure it's done by someone who knows how to do the job properly, preparation is 95% of the job and if corners are cut here the arch lip will be bubbling in a years time. If it were me i'd view the wing before purchasing. There are many different types of paint and you need to be aware that with 2 ages of paint on the car they're going to fade at different rates, the best way to counteract this is unfortunately beyond me. Hartech is a reputable independant porsche specialist end they are based in Lancashire. good hunting.

Thats stupid, looking at that pic of the damage, I think it would panel beat out. No need to replace. Modern bodyshops seem to have no skill these days.
