The wierdest thing....

Just happened to me on the way home from work on the M25 just half hour a go.

I was casually stuck in traffic in the slip lane to come off at Staines/Egham and a chap in a white van wound down his window and asked what model my car was, I told him and he said i thought so and that was that. The next thing i know the Traffic's moving again and i drive past the same van and he yells "s---t"!!

Has anyone else experienced this form of Jealousy / Complete Neandarphal like behaviour whilst driving their cars? [&o]

No but at the other end of the scale the other day a chap in very nice silver Noble pulled up next to me and gave me the thumbs up!

That's probable show's why he is driving a white van. My other car(Ho Ho) is a MG ZS diesel and I blast up and down to London from Swindon every night and quite often have people speed up when I go to overtake them in a smokey MG, some people heh? I followed a nice Ferrari 430 in traffic the other day and told him it was a nice car, felt a berk though but at least the jealousy didn't make me call it shit whilst I was in my MG. You should of just laughed at the van driver and waved or blown a kiss that tends to send them nuts in my experience.

I was driving a couple of weeks ago and exchanged a few mutually appreciative words with a TVR (not sure which but had green / purple chromatic paint).
I also drive a white van!

I had nothing but compliments when I had mine, though I thought I noticed slightly less courteous driving towards me when in the 944 than when I was in my Focus despite me often going out of my way to be super courteous to others. Like you say - jealously and ignorance.

Last night I under took an unmarked police car on the M4, Black Mitsubishi gt hatch all blacked out windows that was doing 50mph in the middle lane in a 60mph zone, I went into the inside lane and he speed up to 70ish until I pulled out to overtake a bus on the inside lane and he stuck his lights on under the front grill, over took the bus pulled in a carried on at 60mph and shock my head at him for being a berk he stayed in the outside lane then for around 2 miles. Third lane was a bus lane so he held the traffic up for ages now I know it was wrong to go on the inside lane but I had sat behind him for long enough.
Love TVR's oh the sound.

Have never had any verbals but there have certainly beeen plenty of occasions where people have decided to not move over/speed up as I pass them/take umbrage when I do overtake and try and "fight back" (one nutter in a really c**p people carrier springs to mind) etc etc.

It initially bemused me, then annoyed me, now generally just amuses me and I usually manage to deal with it with a metaphorical shrug of the shoulders. Plenty of morons out on the road I am afraid.

Well thats good, I thought i was being singled out for some reason. I wouldn't mind but the Vectra i owned before the 944 cost 4 times what i paid for this*.

Anyway i start taking the train to work from monday, i've only had the car 3 weeks and already put 1500 miles on it.

*It was a combination of really good deal on the Porsche and really REALLY bad deal on the Vectra..Live and learn.

Hah! You think a 944 is bad try driving a Mk5 R32 golf! OMG the hatred! Never had any bad experiences in the 944 though when I bought my first turbo at 18 (looking 16) I did get asked if I was a drug dealer by the guy behind the till in a petrol station lol.

p.s. I have also suffered the Police car being an arse problem. The day after I got my 3.2 turbo back I was following a golf sitting in the fast lane of the motorway. Nothing else in sight, nothing in the other lanes just a golf sitting there. I waited, then I flashed, then I gave up and floored it to undertake. As soon as I did this he put on the blue lights, luckily I saw this pretty fast and braked so I was sat along side him. I ignored him, sat there at his speed and after 5 mins he gave up and turned them off! What an arse.

I've been told my brother has had similar experiances in his old Escort Cosworth (RiP).
I know the Police down his way can be a bit funny (not haha) lol.

Well I was walking down Victoria Street in London about 10 years ago when a perfectly normal-looking chap came up to me and said "I hope you've thrown away all those fish."

And walked off.

Now that was the weirdest thing!

I occasionally saw the same thing from the usual rep mobiles when I would outpace/outbrake/outcorner them in my Skoda. Serves them right for getting a vectra/mundano/3 series [:D]
I also suffered the police thing when a 1.6 focus sat right up my bottom for a good 5 or 6 miles on the A30.

Perhaps he was a food safety inspector and thought you were Jesus.

He was either mad, or mistook me for someone else, or was having a very good laugh.

One of those moments you don't ever forget. I was in a suit. It was a busy street, one lunchtime, in a repectable area with lots of offices. He was wearing a smart jacket and trousers. He looked perfectly normal and sane, about 35-40 years old.

Some people are born to be losers, let him have his laugh, he's still a loser, i bet he felt really big after doing that, i hate people like that, i had it the other day walking around some shops, two lads just as they go by said 'c%%t', i wanted to hurt them.

Ooh don't start a van driver argument, you wont win! Lots of proper jobs require the use of a van.

Actually, I quite respected him.

My theory was that he had a very dry sense of humour, and was having a laugh. He wasn't insulting (unlike the two 'gentlemen' you happened upon) and did no harm. Kind of like a good practical joke, with no serious or long-term consequences.

It did, however, leave me more than a little confused!

I don't think anyone has a problem with Van drivers. Lord knows i drive them often enough. Just the petty "eejits" that have to insult other people to get a laugh out of their mates.
I've worked with them before so i know the type. It was just unnusual to be on the receiving end of it [:)]

hiya skooby, if you want to feel totally unmitagated hatred from other drivers, then nothing compares to owning a suburu sti, during my ownership i recieved more abuse/hand signals, not being let out of junctions, cut up etc etc! after going back to porsche ownership i find the exact opposite and that most people are complementary about my s2[thumbs up from fer 430? coupe driver in epping a few weeks ago], so i would think your encounter to be rare, regards jason p

Not 'quite' the same but I get hugely irritated by ignorant people in my village and elsewhere who say " thats not a proper Porsche " , if I am tempted to point out that it is proper enough to embarrass their car on any type of road they care to mention then they don't actually have an answer of course because there isn't one.

Cheers
