The time of year again when the insurance is due ( April ) and decided to go on a few of the comparison websites.
I am with Locktons, at the moment ( the club sponsors ), and will certainly give them a chance to compete. Currently pay them approx. £1000 pa which includes track day cover and breakdown.
In the meantime I thought I would just do a little digging around.
So the basic requirements I need:
10,000 miles PA
European cover
Social only - no more commuting to work for me!
Value at £50k
Protected NC
Voluntary excess of £250
Courtesy car required if I have an accident
Break down cover no needed ( covered by warranty )
Best quote to date is with SAGA ( I am after all of a certain age and nicely retired too [][] ) They quoted me £269.
Worst quote: Acorn Direct £10,640.74. Obviously don't want this kind of business and at those prices they wont get it either.
Father in law is with SAGA and had no problems claiming recently when contaminated fuel necessitated the complete replacement of the fuel system on his diesel Cayenne. It is still under Porsche warranty and to keep the warranty this had to be done. Cost circa £10k to fix. [&:] Nice to know that there is no quibble with that sort of claim and one that you might expect they would try to wriggle out of.
I know there is lots to be said about what in the small print but who has the time or the experience / knowledge to examine all that! I guess its down to us trusting what were taking on at our own peril. Caveat Emptor and all that entails.
Still time to shop around and see what on offer.
