Things that go creak in the day....

My C2's suspension is starting to creak something terrible at low speeds. Seems to be the front corners, and in dry weather. My local independent states this is not unusual and to be expected in the summer. However it is getting down right embarassing driving around with the car sounding like a wrought iron bed, that is well past it's sell by date, on an eager couple's wedding night......

any pointers, gratefully received...

Mine does that too! It's just going in to be looked it. I suspect suspension bushes ...

Hi Paul,

I agree with Tim. Mine were terrible and took it in to OPC and was told it was the top mounts and it wasnt.

Changed the lower bushes and that did the trick. I think you will need the geometry done as well.

Cheers,

Rob

Guys

Friend of mine just had exactly the same issue with a boxster - slow speed creak, worse when the car was hot and and even worse in hot weather.

It was the lower suspension bushes - those replaced and now no creaks.

hope this helps

Pete

Thanks for all the feedback Guys, most useful. Tim, I would be grateful if you can let me know how you get on.

Had the same problem on the day i was off to france for a 1500 mile trip, my local Opc did it while i waited 1 hours labour, all in including discount on labour and parts was £245.00 did the trip and there was no problem.. This is common on 996 and Boxsters of this sort of age.

Open the boot put your hands on the seal, and rock the car up and down and you will here it very easily.

As my 996 is over 6 years old my opc gives me a special labour rate taking £25 off per hour. the parts department give me 10% off parts for being a member of this club. my opc is 10 miles from my work so it makes it ideal for me there a good garage and like PCGB.

I dont think it is the norm with all OPC but mine are in favour of giving members a discount for parts, and they want to keep older cars in there workshops and give the discount on the labour rate to encourage this, it's works as there are many olders cars i see there such as Sc, 964s, and 993's which shows intrest in the brand and not just money making.

I would ask your OPC about this

Cheers

Phil
