Thinking of a 996 4S as winter run around.

Looked at a 996 4S earlier today, thinking of it as a winter run around.

105 k miles and full OPC service for first 85K then independent thereafter. 4 owner last one for 4 years.

Looks a straight clean car....still has sticker under bonnet so no front damage.

What should I be looking for and can anyone recommend someone local to Ely Cambridge for inspecting it.

If you have a Cayenne, it will make a far better winter runaround than a C4S! Although fine in the wet and cold, my experiences in the snow with my Turbo on summer tyres were not good. The tyres are too wide, and like having a snowboard in each corner. Winter tyres will transform it under these conditions, so if you want to get about with snow on the ground, factor a set of winter wheels/tyres into your budget.

Can't help with a Cambrdge specialist, but someone else will hopefully chime in.

Thanks Richard,

By winter run around I was figuring wet rather than snow conditions as you're absolutely right that the Cayenne is the vehicle for when the snow comes down.

However it does require 2 parking spaces as its so big[:D]

Whether you have a Cayenne or C4S, for true winter capability it would need 'winter' or 'all season' tyres.

Would you say a turbo/4s is better or worse than a c2 without pasm?

Yes give Max Rowley a call at PSC, he knows them inside out and can inspect for you!

In my experience, about the same. My C2 had 265 rears, so a slight improvement in the snow, but offset by lack of 4WD. In snow, its all about tyres.

Got to agree about tyres- my mini last year, to my amazement , with winter tyres pretty much out performed my discovery 3 with the Pirelli M and S tyres.( not full winter below 7 degrees spec)
Saw an article recently where a Boxter with winter tyres completely outperformed a Cayenne 4WD on summer rubber!
