Thinking of buying a Boxster, help needed

So I just sold my Lotus Elise and am looking to buy a Boxster. I am looking at Boxster priced 12-14k, so most likely it will be an early 2.5

Any suggestion on the 2.5 engine ? good, bad ugly ?

I was also interested in finding out how much I should yearly for service costs, is running a boxster expensive ?

Things to look for when viewing Boxster ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, there so many for sale and I want to buy wisely (I hope anyway).

Can i suggest you try a search, as the subject is discussed on a weekly basis - last night i answered on another thread with an ÂŁ18k budget.

Done a search and read through.

The one thing that concerned me was a thread on problems with 2.5 engines, should this really be a big concern ? Is there anything to look out for ?

2.5 engines suffered slipped cylinder liners, and a handful had porous engine cases - these were either replaced under warranty or have most liekly failed since and been replaced or rebuilt. Unless you have bought a garge queen with minimal mileage then you are probably safe to assume your acquisition is OK. But you should still be budgetting for tyres, air con repairs, servicing and other running repairs at about ÂŁ2-3k per annum

ok so my 1k a year is a bit out then [;)]

The car I am looking to buy is a 1997 with 56k on it, can I consider that enough mileage for any failure.

Its had a major service and a 12k service in the last few weeks, I was thinking of waiting till the next service, before getting a warranty from warranty direct, makes sense?

if i were you and its had a recent service from a reputable indy or opc then i would get the 111 pt check and warranty right away-could save a lot in the long run-just my opinion

no from the experience of owning a 2.7 Boxster for 4 years and then a 3.2 S for another 18 months....i would say at a good specialist ÂŁ1,000 is about average for a low to average yearly mileage. i wouldn't bother taking a older Boxster to a OPC...your'd just be wasting your money.
try a few, then Buy the one you like best and you won't regret it..........have fun.

But if the car is a 1997 would I still be able to get a Porsche warranty ?

I should be picking the car up today :)

If you look on the official Porsche website I am pretty sure you can buy a warranty for a car up to around 15 years old with a mileage limitation. Have a read anyway. What you will have to pay for is the inspection before the annual premium.

don't worry about the warrenty.
just look aftr the car and it will look after you.............drive it, enjoy it ad stop worrying about it breaking down.......its not a TVR[;)]

I am with you on that, you could worry permanently. So I have given that up.

The excitment builds just a few hours before I pick her up :)
