Thinking of Buying a CN Turbo MY05.. BOUGHT IT!

Dr P Sorry I can't help on the Turbo specifically, as have personally only had two S's. Warranty is certainly a consideration at this level, so if you buy from an opc you will get one and the option to renew each year, well worth it IMO, even at the new prices. A lot of kit is standard on the Turbo, as you are no doubt aware, but the multi function steering wheel and phone is a useful option. Also worth checking which tracker system is fitted. The facelift version had VTS from Cobra which has been a pain on my new one. The Tracker on the earlier model we had was fine. The usual caveats about service history (possibly only one stamp in the book at this age) and recalls done. Mileage will be a good guide on values as ones with high mileage are caned even more on depreciation. A reasonable amount oil consumption is normal on these engines, perhaps a thousand miles per litre is not unusual. Also worth checking the system info to see what the continuous readings show. Most people don't bother updating this, so you could find the averages for several hundred hours/thousand miles, which will give a good idea how the car has been driven. (Very) low mpg and high mph averages will tell there own story. Finally, have a good look at the condition of the rear seat backs. Ours gets used all the time for tip runs/luggage/university kit/shooting gear etc and the rear seats are up and down like a yo yo so the trim is well used and marked. Better cared for examples will appear hardly used. Also, the bigger rims on the turbo are more prone to kerbing and expensive to refurb. Hopefully some owners will pick up on this thread and help you more than I have. Happy hunting, there's plenty of choice!

The first generation (which will be the one you are looking at, I guess) had an issue with the rear window closer, which had a modification to prevent it popping open. I had a new set of coil packs under warranty as the engine had a hesitation on pick up, and have heard of this on a couple of other cars. Other than that, the satnav was a bit out of date on the mapping and expensive or impossible to upgrade. Others may have different experiences.

I am looking for an 2005 one. Is there a place where I can see the car's models & mods? Cheers I found one at: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/porsche-cayenne-history2.htm

As your details suggest you live in Surrey, suggest you pop in to Porsche Reading or Guildford and lightly grill an experienced sales person on the questions you have. I'd also try and speak to one of the Service people who will most likely give you a candid view on any issues to look out for. Last time I was in Guildford opc they had a couple of pre owned Turbos in stock that you can pore over. They're showing one with a panorama glass roof for under £30k on the website.

Thanx Peter, you are right and I might do that, but I am looking for a bargain at around £20-25k max and I think an OPC would not let go for one at that price. I will wait until Feb'09 and then I am sure I'll be able to get one at my price level. Cheers and Merry Xmas [:)][:)][:)]

Looking for one myself at the moment. Would you mind sharing what spec you got for that? Age/mileage in particular?

I got a 54 reg, but 05 facelift, for £22k; from a dealer and IMO A1 condition. Quite a few extras but no sunroof and 61k on the clock. Full OPC SH, 3 owners, 1 months Xtended warranty and 12 months full 5* AA warranty. [:)][:)][:)]

Congrats thats a good price on 05 MY from a dealer. Looks like I may be getting one this week myself!
