All,
I'm thinking of buying a 968, either Sport or Club Sport models as a companion to my year old Boxster. Whilst I've read quite a bit on this forum and in the various Porsche magazines, I'd like to ask a few questions of the knowledgeable amongst you:
What I know so far:
I remember reading in Autocar at the car's launch that they reckoned that it was the best handling car of it's time and that it is still reckoned to be amongst the best to this day.
The Club Sport is a stripped out version and lighter but with few creature comforts
The Sport is somewhat more comfortable and had a few more luxuries.
Tiptronic - no thank you!
What I'd like to know:
Kind regards
Richard

What I'd like to know:
- Mechanical robustness. Most cars for sale have covered between 60k to 115k miles. Obviously professional servicing keeps them in tip top condition but are there any known weakspots that could land me with a big bill? Funds permitting, I'd go for the lowest milage car I can find
- Are regular oil changes, disc's and pad replacements an easy operation? I'm a mechanical engineer by trade, but don't have a workshop and this sort of work would have to be undertaken on my driveway.
- Are there any known corrosion problems. The car would be a high days and holidays drive and possibly the odd track day and I'd probably Waxoyl it or similar
- What options are in your opinion worth looking for and similarly those that I should avoid?
- Independent Porsche specialist servicing costs.
- Recommended replacement intervals for cambelts/ chains, auxiliary drive belts etc
- Are worn seats expensive to replace or refurbish? - Secondhand parts I guess?
- Any other pitfalls?
Kind regards
Richard
