Thinking of selling S2

Lots of talk of buying, selling or restoring going on here at the moment.
So having recently bought a S2 Cab I dont think I will have the room to park three vehicles and the girlfriends at my place neither do I think that realistically I would get time to put the other S2 on the track or justify the cost.Taxing it and insuring would be £500 a year - so it could be up for grabs.
In many ways its a real shame but a valuable lesson learnt not to buy on impulse ! But I may have saved an S2 that would have just been broken.

As some of you will be aware I have spent alot of money on it in the last 12mths.

The Good news.
Belts and pulleys changed 7k miles ago.
New cams and chain.£800
Very recent Top end rebuild.(130k miles on clock)£1500
New Brake discs front and rear.£520
Calipers overhauled.£250
New starter motor.
New windscreen.£466
Dyno'd at Silverstone Oct 07 212bhp (no 6 on list of normally aspirated http://www.cannell.co.uk/944%20UK%20League.htm)
Its quick and sounds great.
Alpine White !?( Blue cloth logo interior)
The clock works !

The Bad News.
Body work - Sills need doing aswell as the bottom of the front wings. Little bit of rust around the number plate lights.
Drivers seat hip/bum bolster worn.

Im trying to as transparent as possible.
Any Ideas as to value ? Thoughts or opinions welcomed.

You might want to give us an idea just how many girlfriends you need to park with your three cars.....[8|]

Sorry! [:)]

Serious face on now.....[;)]

Maybe a "current values" sticky would be a good idea?

Please let me know if you'd rather I delete this if you don't want my opinion to affect your car's value!

Yours is mechanically sorted but the bodywork needs the usual, and if done properly potentially expensive, repairs. White is not the most popular colour, leather is nicer and you don't mention working air-con so I'm assuming no.

I'd say a straight but unexceptional S2 would struggle to beat £4k in the present market. (sorry - selling a house means estate agent language mode is on.....[]) That would be a car without all, but maybe some, of the work you've had done. Most S2s out there need the bodywork repairing to some degree, so your's is probably no worse than most but you've been honest.

I'd say £4k would be an insult, £7k if you had a proper job done on all the bodywork. Where you pitch it in the middle would be more down to how quick you wanted to sell.....

JMHO!

No need to delete Paul, anyone on here will have done their homework and will be aware of the issues.
No A/C . Climate control working.

You mean you have cars other than 944's and you're still thinking of selling the S2 before the others? Shame on you [;)]

I don't envy your position, yours is a really well mechanically sorted car but any potential buyer needs to be thinking of spending a couple of grand on it fairly soon. It would make an awesome track car though [:D]

Congratulations on getting a cab, must have missed this, have you posted any pics yet?

Hi Peter
Cant get rid of the Pickup not sure I could put a tow bar on an S2 for all the building materials.
But your right it would make an awesome track car and Im thinking of that myself ,but I am sure I wouldnt find the time to make it worthwhile.
I will post some Pics of the cab, will find time to take some at the weekend.
Hows the viper green coming along ??
Regards
Andy

Hi Rich
133k on the clock at the moment.
Some history but nothing really worthwhile. Recent history I hope will be of more importance now all mechanical parts have been fixed or are new.
Its had quite a few owners showing on the V5 but I think that is mainly due to lots of private plates being moved around ??

i have been looking for a while i would not expect to pay more than 5k for a fine example with good history, i have seen quite a few between 4k and 5k with similar mileage. How much is the bodywork restoration lilley to cost a potential buyer? By the way have you any pic's of inside and out?

What's the track car thinking here? I only ask because surely a track car needs to be tip-top to stand up track day driving. I am thinking front ball joints, suspension, brakes and full alignment here. Driving on a road these items can be compromised (within MOT/safety tolerances of course). With that in mind, getting any car to a standard where it'll take everything a track day can give would cost more than tidying up a road car, surely? Unless the road car warrants a full respray of course. And I suppose you can sell of the interior bits from the track car that you don't need.

Beware - a lot are advertised at these sorts of prices, and alot of them are complete dross (as I found to my annoyance a couple of years ago.)

Seriously good ones may well go for a lot more. And, equally, rubbish ones can be picked up for a couple of grand, or even less.

This car is in superb mechanical condition now, Andy hasn't skimped on it. It's only the bodywork that stops it being perfect, hence my tongue in cheek track day suggestion. [;)]

I will arrange to sort out some pictures inside and out including close ups of the sills.

The track car suggestion that Peter made, my indie made too. As it would be a good car to transform , I suspect anyone looking for a track car would be looking at changing the suspension, upgrading brakes (although they are new) and sorting out the alignment etc etc. anyway. And for a track car I dont suppose the body work is of huge importance.
