Mostly replacing the head light switch, which decided it wanted to play a practical joke on me. Friday night, pitch black country lane, and a land rover bombing towards. ALL the lights go off ! Pooh my pants, just for a second[:)]. The lights went on and off for a few minutes, but i couldnt turn the switch off. In frustration i pushed the switch into the dash and burn't top off thumb[] We limped home, to a few carfully choosen words, where i disconnected the battery and waited until morning.

Im really greatful to CMS Porsche as a replacement light switch was an easy find and replacing was easy, but he did say that it is quite common on 924s and 44s and i was lucky that the car (dash) didnt catch fire !

What u been doing this week ??

Yeah I had that on "goldie" I fitted a new switch and hurriedly sourced a 20 amp (continuously rated) 12v relay and let the switch operate the relay. It's an easy mod and the relay fits easily behind the dash. End of problem and worry if it will happen again. If anyone would like the wiring diag post a message

Mine did that on the way home from the 30th Ann. event. Lights were on because of fog, smell of burning, pull over, switch lights off etc, walk round car, have a poke around, can't see anything. The lights had been on for about an hour before this happened.

Only a few miles from home now, so leave lights off as it's clearer conditions anyway now. Home we go, no further trouble.

Go back out next day to see if I can identify what it might have been as it was definitely a hot plastic smell. Let's try the lights again and see - switch is absolutely solid. Obviously it's all melted inside and whatever had started to melt was now solidified. I switched them off just in time I guess.

I haven't forgotten you guys. I have been nursing my wife after a hip operation for the last three weeks, three more to go. Ooooh a woman's work is never done!

I used an RS 12v relay teminals marked thus. By using the relay in this manner, normal side light and lift functions are retained, but the heavy current, for the beams goes through the relay. This is especially important if you have fitted 80/100 bulbs like I did.
