Those Winter Jobs and Who has Helped...

Having done quite a few things to the car this winter, I thought I'd share my experiences with you all.

Had the leather seats re-finished. This involved stiching a new strip in along the bolster of the driver's seat where it had been worn through. Also re-colouring the leather which is 3 different colours of grey plus the black for the seat shell cover. I used Benchmark Leather Renovation - based in Crystal Palace. Mark Slade did a fantastic job on them and turned them round in less than a week.

Had the instruments re-covered. Reap Automotive Designs did a great job on them. Reasonable turn around time after they eventually collected them from the post office but ignored my request for them to be delivered to my office and no invoice/receipt for the cheque I had to send with the order - so nothing to add to the car's file.

Replaced all of the missing nuts, bolts and washers the car had lost over the last 15 years having gone over the car with a fine tooth comb and an inspection by GT One when they serviced it. OPC Tonbridge served up all of the goodies in 3 days - Dan in the parts dept. is a top man.

New wheels (replicas) and tyres from a well known midlands parts dealer and club partner. A painful experience as they missed their delivery dates twice without having the courtesy to let me know in until I phoned them both times at about 5pm after waiting at home all day. I wont be using them again in a hurry unless nobody else in the country sells what I am after especially as they persuaded me to spend an extra £95 + VAT on the wheels because their preferred supplier didn't have any in stock - it was eventually 3 weeks later when they turned up so that was money well spent - not.

Had mounts welded into the rear shelf for harnesses, a new driver's seat mount fabricated and the rust at the base of the rear windscreen sorted. Where else would I have gone but GT One? Top job as always and good communication. With guys like Craig and Peter in the game, it makes owning an older car much more of a pleasure, they are real enthusiasts.

The new harnesses came from GPR Direct. Hmmm, You need to keep in contact with them if they don't have what you're after in stock. Net result, I ended up with one harness with a FIA expiry date of 2012 and one of 2013 and if they cared that much about the customer, they would have said that "you don't need to order the eye bolts because they are included with the harnesses." Only a few £ so not catastrophic. It would have shown they cared if the did rather than just sending an e-mail saying that they only had one harness in stock - end of message.

All of the bits that I did without needing to spend money - thanks to Rennlist and for the heating servo fix, John's 964 website.

If anybody wants any contact numbers, please just PM me.

Mine's been a DIY winter as usual!!!

I've replaced all the missing bits, replaced a few tired seals (except front wing seals which still need doing) and replaced a dodgy oil line, all parts from OPC Leicester, Stephen their parts guy was right on the ball as usual. Also got hold of a towing eye, as mine was missing!

Had trans fluid replaced, tappets adjusted, exhaust gaskets and clamps replaced, and new rocker cover gaskets/timing chain case gaskets and new front ARB bushes installed.. all work done by chris at GCR in Leicester. Top job as always, thoroughly recommended

New brake pads in the front, new braided brake hoses and brake lines, wear sensors, ATE super blue fluid. Parts from ECP, Ebay, OPC, OPC, and GSF respectively. Work carried out myself with a hand re-assembling (the night before Leic OPC opening event) from my mate chris who put up with my swearing and farting without complaint! Fitted front and rear wheel spacers (rear's from Jason, fronts from porscheshop through ebay)

Front brake calipers re-built by EBC in northampton, however they didnt paint them, so they still require a cosmetic tidy up!.. I got them done for free, but I think they normally charge 100 quid a corner for the service (which includes a full stripdown, new seals, re-build test and paint). Fast turn around and great service

Strut-brace pinstriped for fun and practice more than anything.. supplies from PUK at pinstriping.co.uk
Cheap brake cooling ducts modified to fit then re-moulded from scratch, awaiting painting then fitting.. materials from TOMPS plastics
Auto-jumble damaged RS Rear bumper centre section brought back to life and ready for painting and fitting

Pending oil service, possibly to be done weekend of Brooklands lunch at GT1... freebie won at Ragley hall last summer; will update on service when complete
