Thoughts on a 987 2.9 Exhaust Upgrade

Hi

Are there any Cayman 987 2.9 owners out there with experience of upgrading their exhaust to something a little more tuneful?

Currently got the stock exhaust and considering the Remus catback system on the Design 911 website or seeing if a Porsche centre would retrofit a PSE.

Anyone gone down this track and if so are you happy with the results??

my boxster 987.2 (2.9) booked in for PSE retrofit in a few weeks time at local OPC (it's under warranty so going OPC route for now). Will report back after done,

 
That’s great I would be really interested to know what you think. Made enquiries about the PSE yesterday, waiting to hear about costs. I like the idea of having the switchable exhaust rather than always on “loud” but I guess that means more £££. Hope it goes well!

 
I can't comment specifically for the 2.9, but I have PSE on my 987.2S. The previous owner had it retrofitted by an OPC dealership at significant cost. I guess it depends on what you're looking for in order to decide if it's worth it, but I'd say that I'm glad it's there, but there's no way I'd have paid that amount of money for it. It adds a deeper tone to the exhaust which I really like and also adds a bit of volume. There's no drone at any stage (unlike a Miltek) and the sound is not invasive. You have to listen to tell the difference when it's on or off. Once you're used to it, it's obvious, but can be a little subtle at first. The advantage of using OPC to fit it is that you have the button on the console, so you can switch it on or off whenever you want. I tend to keep it off when passing my neighbours first thing on a morning, then keep it on at all other times.

It's a "nice to have", but not something I'd personally spend money on.

Worth checking in with Gert at Carnewal on his offering (for your particular model)...the rest of us with his exhaust offerings swear by him

I had an enquiry a couple of days ago from a dealer who has bought in a 2.9 with a sports exhaust on it and he wants to change it for a standard system, if you PM me I will pass your details on and see if a swap can be arranged. They are based at a place called Coleford if that helps.

 
Hi stumbled across this old post, did you get an exhaust in the end that you were happy with? Or a price from OPC for a sports exhaust?

 
Hi. I actually sold the car a few years ago, much to my regret. I never changed the exhaust in the end as spent too much money getting the suspension and cross over pipes fixed!

Would have the car back in a heartbeat but I think its on a private plate now so cant even see if its still on the road.

As of about 3 months ago the PSE retrofit kit for a 987.2 was on back order from OPC with no projected dates - if I remember correctly it's some thing like 1500 for the bits plus labour so ballpark 2.5K but I may have that wrong - give the OPC a call and see what they are saying

Or, I see you in r25 - suggest give Steve Ackrill at Goshall Classics a call - he has done several and also had several customers lined up ( pending back orders ) - his labour rate is cheaper than OPC and he is highly thought of.
