THOUGHTS ON THIS PLEASE

i know the S series are the most sort after but shud i be looing for a T or an E? what are more desirable out of the two models tks
 
It's rare that an early 911 buyer would consider both a Targa and a Coupe. The Targa tends to be a Marmite car and the values are marked down accordingly. I suggest that you equip yourself with a book like Peter Morgan's "Original 911", which will run you through the various models by year and capacity. In short the Ss are the most sought after and are priced accordingly (up to £75K for a RHD 72/73coupe), the E has less power and slightly softer feel, rare, but still sought after, the T has the least power and is most common, look to pay up to £40K for a RHD coupe. 2.2s are worth quite a bit less than 2.4s, but are not much slower.

Beware RUST. Targas are more prone due to water ingress and body flex. US cars are no less rusty in my experience, so beware.
 
haha ot really is a minefield then! so in brief the E is the next sort after after the S is what i think your saying. Also the L model? that the 2ltr and not very wanted? Being born in 1968 ive seena few examples of these in that year. Alternatively i cud get something like this-http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1487242.htm where rust wouldnt be a big issue and outlay is much smaller.
Other question is is i was to pay up for a 911s is it likey to be worth more again in 5yrs time or am i better off with an E or the T for lot less?
 
The RS has moved upwards beyond almost everyones 'reach', so the next highest spec is the S.
This will go the same way as the RS.(well on its way now?)

Then the E, and eventually the T

If the goal is to profit then get the S?

I have had a 2.2T and then a mech injected 2.4E and finally a 3.2 in my '73T.

The E engine (albeit with S pistons + Barrels) was a very nice driving/racing combo.

The 3.2 is nice as in a different way (lots of torque)

I imagine the E is actually rare now esp with matching numbers?
 
If you buy a mint restored S or E then it's not going to lose money but the initial payout is large. And you may have to pay over the market price initially because the cost to restore the car may mean the price it's for sale at is more than it's worth.

Anyhing other than mint and you really need to know your onions as restoration costs can be large. Bodywork rust particularly. Also value is determined by how much on the car is correct and original and what it would cost to source the bits. Prices for hard to find bits are very high (eg dashboard tops).

So yes what you pay for any particular car will determine if it's a good buy, so the most important bit is to truely understand what a particular car is worth in the state you buy it in. This is where knowledge of the above comes in and can be a minefield.

I'd guess because there are a proportion of people who really like them and a proportion that really don't......like marmite.

With a coupe its more like 'toast'.

Have u seen the E model at Brooklands on Pistonheads? Looks all original and right to the period. Question is at 24k is it the right price??
