Thoughts on tyres?

Hello to all, I have to replace my tyres (more expense!) would appreciate any thoughts or views from the Forum as to the best choice in your experience/s.

My car is an SC cab from 1983, I currently have Michelin Pilot sports at the front, and Michelin Primacy at the back (the backs were replaced a couple of years ago after the original pilots wore out) I have been fairly happy with this combination but the grass is always greener ete etc .....!

Budget is round £600.00 for the full set - any ideas?

Best wishes

Jonathan

Just replaced mine with full set of Bridgestone SO2's , very pleased with them. Got mine for Front 205/55-16 at £189 and Rear 245/45-16 at £309 ( mine are Turbo wheels so yours should be cheaper) Try Blackcircles.com

Thanks Geoff, the fronts are the same, my back ones ae 225s so might be a bit cheaper, what did you have prior to the Bridgestones?

Best wishes

Jonathan

Yoko's but not that happy with them.Wet weather not inspiring and rears only lasted about 8K. (car not tracked as its a Speedster, but several trips to France so have been used at higher speeds[:)]). Gone back to SO2's these were original fitment and Porsche approved

Once again thank you Geoff for your thoughts, will let you know how I get on in sourcing/final choice!!

Best wishes

I too had been agonising as to what tyres to buy just before my MOT to replace my Pirellis.
I eventually decided on Michelin Primacy Sport (205/55Z R16) and managed to get a pair valved and fitted for an amazing price of £125. The car drives even better than before and just sticks to the road - though haven't tried it in the rain yet.

I guess some of you may have seen this before, but there used to be a post on here (since deleted for some reason) pointing to this which seems to say that Porsche officially recommend. For anyone on 15inch rims it looks like Pirelli P6000 N1s or nowt.

Although looking at the file name that's maybe what they were saying iback in Feb 2008 (or Aug 02!) - things may have changed since?

By complete coincidence I bought a pair of the Pirelli rears before seeing this document and they seem fine to be, although I can only compare them to the nearly bald ones I bought with the car so am not well qualified to say!

I guess their recommendation has to be a bit general though. E.g. someone who doesn't drive on the limit all the time may value good wear chracteristics over the best grip etc.
