Hi - I'm genuinely baffled. I've messed about and looked at a million and one other cars to change my 996 tt for - finally getting near to a decision. It may be a while until I can find a dealer with the right car (and I'm not sying what because everyone keeps laughing!!) so I've put it up for sale, but prices seem to be all over the place.

This isn't a shifty "add in the forums" - I just want to check if I'm living in a dreamworld! I guessed (for a good 02 996 TT tip with 25k) £44k is a reasonable ad starting point but any opinions would be very welcome.

My son is having the same dilemma with his 996 Turbo, but I believe has come round to the idea it's a cracking car that is worth keeping. Unless you have 40 to 50K to throw away. And yes, it is worth every penny of 44K.

Echo that. I sold my 2001 car a couple months back for no particulalrly good reason other than I'd owned it 3 years and thought a change is as good etc...

Finding it very hard to settle on a replacement. Thoughts of a return to 993 motoring for a while banished after a couple of test drives. They feel so, well, old after the 996tt. Stating the bleeding obvious I know, but unless you've got an urge to try another marque or can afford to upgrade to an X50 or 997, my advice is keep it!
 
Thanks - I'm plesed to hear I'm not the only one who struggled to find a replacement - its been almost impossible and looking at 997s, 360s, Masers and Astons (V8V and DB7V) just makes the Turbo seem like such a great blend of performance and reliability. The trouble is I've held on to my 993 as well and the TT just isn't getting as much use as is did, plus, rather oddly, I've got this massive attraction to a Morgan Aero8....!

 
It never seems to be a good time to sell a car, the market is probably a little flat but I'd say 44 was about right, maybe a tad more if colour & spec is not going to be an issue. I'd say that 24k was starting to look like lower than average miles for the year.

what are you changing to? I promise not to laugh [:)]
 
I am in the same boat.

I am doing 110 miles per day commute and fuelling costs etc are spiralling out of control.

Dont laugh - but was thinking about a 335 D.

I know, but its supposed to be a cracking car with 40plus mpg. The porker is just getting driven up and down the motorway - seems a shame to sell though.

Been pondering this for months!

ps how much is a 02 996TT with 70K miles (excellent condition with FPMDSH etc) worth?

Not many about with 70k miles.

sniper I had the same thing about 18 months ago but at that point kept the 996 and spent £12k on a merc to do 100 miles a day.... s-class cruising, 30mpg on unleaded, 500 mile range, etc. I didn't particularly enjoy using the TT every day as motorway miles seemed such a waste and with a range of 200-300 miles the constant pit-stops were a pain.

To be honest I don't think the price difference between a 30k car and a 70k car is that massive - nothing like the hit a new 335 will take in 2 years. There was one on PH and here I think that sold very quickly in late 30s if I remember right.

At least you have a sensible reason though!
 
Advertised my 02. 996 TT in various mags including this club over the past few months, but rec'd no responce at all. Advert still listed on this forum 'Members for Sale' dated 12/05/08 with a price of £39500 ono.
In the end the car was sold but not thro advertising.

As loyal to Stuttgart cars that we are, I've been offered a BMW Z8. A business partner has it (in Germany). Took it for a drive. It is serious fun... They seem rock solid on residuals. Makes a great noise.. And has basically the same engine as that Morgan. Think I prefer the looks of the beemer!
 
I've been looking at Z8's over the past 12 months... prices have actually risen slightly [:mad:] they are more now than the were 12 months after launch when the dealers couldn't give them away...

Certainly not the driving machine that the 911 is, but it can certainly pull a crowd and your totally correct about the noise it makes..

You're quite right about the driving experience, but the fun is open top, that noise, the bond connection (though I'm no 007 lookalike!), and according to BMW club, only 45 odd in the UK. I truly love the 911 but there are quite a few around whereas the Z8, even in it's fatherland, attracts a lot of looks and complimentary comments.
 
Fantastic - the Zs do look great. I remember we had a deposit for a RHD version but they never made it in the end - not a big hit to begin with but very interesting now.
 
I've also noticed they're a lot cheaper in the US, helped by the decline of the dollar. Good ones at around £50k. Import taxes are 27.5% (Car Tax and VAT) plus say £2.5k for trip to go view and buy, shipping it back on a RoRo, and making the changes to lights. All in £65k (assuming no hiccups). Same car here would cost £70k. Probably not worth it but I thought the trip over to view and buy would be fun. As always, the taxman spoils the fun..
