I was going to include this in my rebuild thread but I was so impressed thought it needed a thread to itself[:)]

how was it done well the seals were toast[]

so the seal stop oil being blown into the TPS , I know that people sometimes change the seals with some success but to do the job right then replace the bearings with twin seal units

NOT my work done by Simon Peckham I believe the cost is around £100 well worth it IMHO

looking nice...I did the same myself during my rebuild...it's a fairly simple job and like you the old seals were toast...There's two type of seal in the kit..standard road and race/track seals....I choose race/track....transformed the throttle response..IMHO any 944 that hasn't serviced it's throttle body isn't running at it's best....

I don't know the bearing source they are the original manufacturer but 2 seals, Simon has developed some tooling to do the job, to be honest cleaning, polishing and bearings for £100 is not bad.

I cam PM his details to anyone who wants to do it[:)]

PSH,

Can you tell me how the race seals improve the throttle response? Are they lower friction than standard road seals?

Thanks

Paul

I think Arnworx has some info about the seals. How long did Simon Peckham keep the TB for ?

Amworx sell just the seals And I considered this option but the complete bearing from Simon was IMHO a better option, he had the throttle for about 1 year:ROFLMAO:. But that's not the normal leadtime this was done as part of the engine rebuild

Hi Paul

I've just reread what I said and perhaps didn't explain myself properly....the better response comment was aimed at the kit in general no matter which seals one uses...you loose vacuum/boost through worn seals and I guarantee you that every 944 out there on the original seals is leaking vacuum/boost through these seals. I chose to use the race/track option as my car is running higher boost, if using a standard setup then I doubt you'd get any benefit from the stronger seals.

regards

Pete

Judging by the condition of the throttle body originally I'd say £100 was well worth it. I've heard SP won't be rushed though [:)].

I think INA supply throttle shaft twin seal roller bearings, removing and refitting may be tricky though.

Hi all,

To update this thread, I recently (March 2023) had Simon at SPS refurbish my throttle body. It came back looking just like the job he did for Kongsodoken. In other words as good as new. I'm very pleased. Simon turned it around in a week, though I suspect he might have been quiet at the time. This included setting up the end stop screw. I haven't refitted the throttle yet.

Regards

Paul

nice one Paul!

luckiky i was looking through my bags of bits and pieces ,..and i did infact order a kit from the original company who no longer sell them …. i will be stripping and installing my kit this week as i’m just about to refit my throttle body also as i’ve had to make a custom bracket to hold the return spring for the butterfly due to a larger turbo i just fitted.

nice Touch when it looks as good as it works 😁

All a fair few years ago now - my coupe was still on the road! I bought the kit from arnworx and a couple of the seals didn't really fit properly, in the end I gave up and Simon did mine too. I was very pleased with the results - pressurising the inlet (chasing boost leaks) it was sealing really poorly before the repair on the shaft seals, the rebuilt one eliminated all the leaks and looked way better!

Tony

Is this Simon as SPS Engines in Bournemouth? - think I've found the right place on Google :ROFLMAO:

I also purchased one of the Arnworx kits but the price looks good to just let Simon deal with it and save me another job.
