Thrust Bearing Failure

Hi All,

just a quick post.......

I hope you are all aware of the TBF (thrust bearing failure) that can occur on some of the 928's.

It seems more prone to the earlier S4's, but it is well known in the USA.

The worst thing is it is SO avoidable by a quick check during the cars service.
The problem could very well cost you an engine replacement if you don't know about it, and take the precautions against it.

Just wanted to mention it, to save losing any more cars to it.

Hi Martin, This is a timely reminder - my understanding is that it impacts more the auto (transmission) later cars and the way to avoid it is to get the flexplate checked and reset on an annual basis. I have to say that having read about it on the web (Rennlist) where the cause and fix/es are fully documented I was amazed that the Official Porsche Centre claimed to have no knowledge o experience of the problem or solution. But of course their interest is in the new cars. Thank you for mentioning this and best wishes,

Thank you Gene, I only hope the word gets around on this one. I have personal experience knowing how it feels to have a wrecked engine caused by it! Spread the word! Best Regards
