Thursday Puzzler: where's that bolt from then??

Maybe someone can help figure out where this is from? By which I mean, not where I found it.

The picture shows an inset of the bolt I found, and the location I found it - sitting in a small cavity very near the oil filter. I'm hoping it isn't something important (and missing!).

That's a banjo bolt. So if it was missing you would have a fluid of some sort pissing all over the place. So chances are it's an old one that has been left or been dropped and got stuck in the place that you found it.

If it is a banjo bolt and it's absence was causing an oil leak then you'd know about it; it would be a pretty good flow and you'd have no trouble locating the source of it.

However I'm not 100% convinced it is a banjo bolt. Does it have a hole down the middle? I can see the hole in the side.

Oli.

Thats the bleed bolt for the cooling system, it screws in on top of the top hose inlet flange. I snapped mine in half on Wednesday so if its spare, I'd be interested.

Yup, I think Jaybobsdad is right. Check the top of the cylinder head at the bleed point, although if this wasn't there then coolant would be streaming out when the engine is running.

What you don't want is for someone to have dropped it down there and then just whacked any old bolt in the original hole.

If it makes you feel better, my mechanic found the oil cap on Wednesday that I thought I'd lost for ever last year, it was sat on top of the starter motor happy as you like having enjoyed a trip to the ring and 2-3 other track days!
