Ticking noise from left side of engine

p27549

New member
I have an anoying ticking noise coming from the region of the left wheel arch. It sounds a bit like a Tappit noise and does increase with engine revs. When engine is cold the noise is not here but when warm it starts to get louder. It is not so apparent from under the engine lid.
Do these engines suffer from the hyd followers getting dirty and not fully expanding causing the noise.
Has anyone else suffered from this noise?

Thanks all.

Maurice, Thanks for the info. It sounds louder from the left wheel well. I have just bought two new filters and will do an oil change even though it was completed less than a year ago and under 3000 miles.
I am using Car Lube Triple R full synthetic 0W40 which is Porsche/BMW approved on the bottle. I am now going to change to 5W40.
Would it be necessary to remove the engine to change the followers or can they be done with engine in place?
The car is only on 55K miles and has regular oil changes.

Hydraulic tappets can be fitted easily once exhaust and tinware (to improve access to inlets) are removed for access.

Thanks for that response. I did the oil and filters change and it has quietened a little. Can still here the ticking though. Good news that the cam does not have to come out.
Cheers
