Ticking noise

Hello everyone,

I was using my 996 in the morning and all seemed fine. Once I started the engine again in the afternoon, there was a 'ticking' noise that became faster when revving up. At some point also the engine light went on very shortly and the engine stopped running. After that the sound was still there and got a bit quieter as the engine became warmer. I had a look at the oil pressure gauge and could not see anything strange.

Does anyone have an idea what this might be caused by?

Thanks a lot.

On my Carrera it had a light tapping noise (like a screwdriver tapping on the rocker cover) that increased in speed along with the engine speed and it was a loose spark plug. However there was no EML on and the engine ran fine all the time apart from the noise.

Thanks guys. Turns out the matter was quite serious and the cylinder lining was scratched on cylinder 1 and 2. I am getting all cylinders relined and the engine rebuild at the moment. My warranty (warranty direct) concluded it was caused by debris entering the engine. Funny enough there are neither signs of debris entering the engine nor travelling through it nor leaving it....

Porsche cylinders have a common problem with the pistons picking up on the cylinders caused with over heating check out Hartech web site to see common problemsand solutions.
