Ticking over problem

My car is actually a 924S but as it has the same engine as a 944, I thought I'd post here...
My car has developed a fault- it starts from cold ok and after a few minutes, the revs drop for a few seconds and then rise sharply for a few seconds and then drop etc over and over again at probably 3 sec intervals. Any ideas? I'm thinking either fuel or cold start related.
 
Sticky idle stabiliser valve?

Search for an ISV thread and there are some guides to cleaning it with carb cleaner
 
like Paul, I'd start with the ISV,
following that, I replaced the injector seals and it made a difference to my car (the O'ring seals were angry looking).

Gosh. I wonder what an angry seal looks like. I expect the local walruses certainly keep well clear. [:D]
