Hi

Thank you will let engine run for a while, see what happens, no doubt they will need changing?

Hi

Yes it worked, thank you so much for the advice, seems I need to use it more often,[:)] I will change the Oil and Filter as well.

Thanks again

Anecdotal evidence suggests that all S2's have noisy followers to some extent or other but it seems to me to be quite rare that they actually fail. Keep them mobile by starting the car to normal operating temperature regularly and they seem to last forever. I doubt you will need to change yours.

Another thing to check is injectors as they have a tendency to add 'noise' to the top end.

A nice sentiment but not entirely accurate; the tappets that were rebuilt by Searle last year for my S2 have never been entirely quiet and I'll be posting the spare set (from the old head) off to them to be rebuilt in the next day or so. This could be due to the fact that they were particularly heavily abused by Ed (edh) in his track toy before he sold them to me but they can and do fail occasionally.

You did tell me that when I bought it Ed! But the guy in Ivor Searle was very confident they could rebuild one no matter how ticky they were that I believed him!

And, I'll give the guy his due, he's doing another set for me at little more than the cost of posting them back to me so I can't grumble.

Yep, 6k rpm, full throttle and sub 1 bar oil pressure half way round Spa.... They weren't going to come back from that. (although we did manage to drive the car home just fine. )
